Since one session has already been completed, can someone let us know what it was like and what you actually did?

my parents aren’t coming along… i hope im not the only one!

There’s a schedule of events up on the CI site. How strictly or loosely they stay to that schedule is something I do not know however.

My parents are not coming either.

So sorry to be a pest about this but…what do you do at night? How many people are in your dorm room? Where do you eat, what do you eat? Do you have any free time? Do the meetings with your advisor really help? Do you get to see the monuments at night? If someone could fill in the blanks it would be great.

I can answer some of your questions waves…

At night they have “CI in the City,” which are a bunch of optional activities led by the cabinet members. One of the options is a nighttime monument tour. There is an abundance of food for all meals, so no need to worry about that. The schedule that they give you is pretty jam-packed, but only a few things are mandatory, so if you meet people and want to explore the city you should have a bit of time to be able to.

I saw the student skits at CI 1; they were great. You guys will have fun!

How many people are in your dorm room really depends. I had five roomates while another friend of mine was all alone in his dorm.

Lunch and dinner for the first two days were provided by the school, mixture of salads with BBQ along with “proper” food at the dinners. Breakfast was much more informal, with bagels, fruits, yogurt and juice.

The student skits were hilarious! :D

My mom says it looks like a bunch of bs, so she’s not coming with me hahahaaaa.
Does anyone know if you might be living in a dorm, can you move in early? For example August 26th (the day before transfer orientation)

International Students could move in early!

I called and asked CI headquarters and they said that transfer students move in on the 26th (day before CI)

Got back from CI and wanted to let anyone who hadn’t been there yet how it was. It was great. The parents had a schedule and the students had a different schedule, so I hardly saw my parents at all. They stayed with friends instead of staying in the suggested hotels and if they didn’t want to attend any of the info sessions, they toured around the city. I stayed in Thurston with 3 other girls. In my opinion, Thurston is a hole and I’m glad that I didn’t choose to room there in the fall. I think that guys might like the place better bc they don’t usually care about older carpet, exposed venting and piping in the ceilings and dismal paint. The bathroom was smaller than the size of my closet at home and it was kind of interesting getting all of us ready on time for the nights events. I think that is where time management skills come in. Anyway, the CI Cabinet (the students managing the program) must have worked really hard bc the program ran smooth and was fun. Both Friday and Saturday nights I was out to 2 am doing organized tours (to the monuments, ice cream in G-town, Greek games, etc) and met a lot of really nice people. Everyone was very friendly, we’re all the same, trying to make new friends in a strange place, and for those people that are worried about GW stuck up attitudes, I found not one stuck up person. Every single person I met was fun and was more than willing to be a new friend. My parents felt the same way and said that their program was informative, fun and that they met a lot of people that were just like them. On Saturday night, they had a wine and cheese party on the top of the Elliott School and then everyone got even friendlier! Ha! So if anyone is thinking about not going to CI, I highly suggest that you rethink and GO. I am ready for this fall, socially and academically and I am positive that I made the right choice in schools. See you in the fall!!!

Sorry, I have to giggle… the bathrooms in Thurston are two square feet larger than my bathroom at home.

I am a parent and we also just returned from CI. It was enjoyable, and nice to see my daughter in her soon to be new environment. We did not choose to attend everything, but many options were offered. My daughter was very happy there. Also not choosing Thurston. Definately good to go if you can.

everyone please behave at CI, not worth getting degerred or rescinded for bad behavior.

sorry deferred,

Waveswatcher and downtoearth.
Not to rain on your parade, but my S DID NOT choose Thurston his freshman year (Sept.2006), and filled out his questionaire such that Thurston would not be a good placement. He was placed in Thurston anyway. I hope that you have better luck than he did. I wanted to let you know in case that also happens to you.

not counting on anything, will find out tomorrow I think. Just not first choice.

just adding…I wish now that I had moved Thurston and Somers up higher on my list after CI! Enjoyed Thurston (yes, an older building) and loved the dorms in Somers. We’ll find out soon!

D got what she wanted. she is happy, but not the most requested I think
