So, I've been trying to find a song for my audition tape and I've found a few that work really well. The problem is that halfway through I start thinking how great the work would be on rifle or saber since I'm used to writing the weapon part for times when our instructor flaked and didn't want to spend time writing our parade work or homecoming work or whatever. If I demonstrate that I know more advanced techniques on flag for the majority, do you guys think it would be okay to use weapon in my audition? My worry is it won't do anything for me since there isn't a weapon line, and maybe even hurt my chances (kind of like how my Harvard interview went down the toilet when the lady wouldn't stop asking me about how much I love color guard... In case you didn't know, Harvard doesn't have a guard).

Anyway, any input is great and the sooner the better since I need to finish writing my work, tape it, and get the flag back to my band director before I graduate aka like 14 days hahah. Good thing I don't have any hw for the rest of the year.

personally i'd stick with flag.
but i totally feel you- in high school i spun tall flag, but also twirled pep flags (two little flags = twice the fun and twice the danger lol)
and, pep flags IMO are just spiffier!

i did my whole routine on tall flag, but, if you really can't resist, then why don't you showcase your sabre/rifle for 30 or 45 seconds out of the 2 minutes? (as long as the remaining really shows off your flag skills!) it also might show gordon that we do have talent on other pieces of equipment, and make it easier for us to argue that we should add something besides flags. there are plenty of people on guard (sadly, not me) who spun rifles in high school and miss it greatly. sabres are a little rarer.

good luck with your audition tape! enjoy choreographing- that's the part i miss most about high school. :)

Thanks, well I'm not crossing my fingers with the convincing him to add a weapon line. A college guard friend of mine told me not to get my hopes since since weapon tends to equal dirtier work and harder to clean. We'll see though ^__^

yah... anything that's not 100% perfect, he makes us change.
even though all the constant changes make routines harder to perfect.
...it's a vicious cycle xD
