colorado college

Does anyone know how significant drug use is at Colorado College? My son wants to attend a block program school but won't apply because he's under the impression that the student body is heavily into the drug scene. He's a great fun-loving kid, has lots of friends and loves the outdoors so I think it could be a good fit. Any thoughts? Thank you.

I always thought the more drug-oriented school in Colorado was UC-Boulder :-).

I don’t think they have time at CC to be heavily into drugs. They work so incredibly hard during each block that if they were getting high on top of it, they would be screwed. My best friend went there and never mentioned a drug culture. I wouldn’t be surprised if several of the students smoked pot on block breaks, but I don’t think I would call it a heavy drug scene.

I posted a response to your question on the Colorado College thread

^ I did, too.

All your comments confirm the good things I have been hearing about the school. Thank you for your input.

Another voice in defense of Colorado College. Like in all schools, there are drugs. But kids who go to CC are on the whole accomplished and academically ambitious. They wouldn’t be either if this was a big drug scene.

Pot is still around in Colorado everywhere. Not sure about drugs. Colorado College has become more homogenous and mainstream in recent years so I think the quirky type kids that might have experimented more with drugs are less than maybe 10 years ago. It is still a great school and the best thing to do is schedule an overnight. he’ll find out if it’s for him or not.

I don’t know where CC falls among colleges regarding student drug use. I can tell you that 4 parents whose kids are now sophomores have told me about rampant drug use at their kids’ colleges, and how those schools are druggie schools. But I know kids from those schools that clearly do not fall into the druggie category.
