I was talking to someone at school today and they told me about the Colorado Index Score. I looked it up and plugged my SAT score and GPA into it and came up with a score of 114. I read that CU-Boulder accepts anyone with a score over 103. So according to that, I should be accepted without any problems. But I keep hearing about how CU is getting more competitive this year. Has anyone else heard anything about the Index, and should I trust it?
I looked at the stats also. I can’t find anywhere that says what year the information for the Colorado Index Score is from.
Here is the website / tool.

It must be pretty current, but maybe last year’s data? Does the index apply to OOS too or just Colorado students?
@collegemom111111 I was wondering the same thing.
Index score…had no idea that existed. Too bad Texas doesn’t use an index score instead of relying entirely on top 10%. Does the index score apply to OOS students too?
140…I’ll take it
Me too, I just wish we knew if it counted for this year or not.
I didn’t see anything that said CU takes everyone over a 103. In fact the link above said that the Index is ONE part of the application.
Several years ago the state legislature wanted to require CU to take all instate applicants with a gpa over a B or a B+ (sort of like Texas taking the top 7%). There was much argument over that, and much argument over state schools taking more than 50% of students from OOS. They came up with a compromise that the schools wouldn’t take more than 50% from OOS (usually they try to stay above 55% instate). but it isn’t a law.
It isn’t possible that they take all applicants with an index score over 103 without regard to the rest of the application. It may work out that way, but it isn’t the ‘rule.’
My daughter did not get into colorado school of mines, though her index score was higher than what was required. So I would agree that the requirements have gone up, or that this is only one indicator of acceptance and other qualifications are at play.
CU Boulder is becoming more competitive for admission every year from what I’ve heard. Luckily, my ACT was so high - a 35- that i’m not really worried. But for people with 28’s,29’s or 30’s, that is becoming the cut off for the ACT.
