Did your kids submit recommendations with their 9/15 EA application? Are they necessary for the 9/15 deadline? There is no way my child can get a teacher recommendation from his large public high school in the next two weeks. (Yes, he asked the teachers last spring and gave them brag sheets. Was told they don’t write recommendations over the summer and don’t get around to them until October/November).
Yes, he did, but he ended up having to ask his teacher to get it done early and then have the teacher pull it out of Naviance and save it as a PDF so he could upload it as a supplement. Not ideal, and honestly if he had it to do over again he may have just skipped the LOR since it’s totally optional at Mines.
Just checking if anyone who has applied has received an email confirming receipt of completed app or has a checklist in their portal?
My son applied in mid-August (with all required documentation) and hasn’t received an email confirming that the application is complete and ready for review, but his friend who applied a few days before him has received one. Also, the portal refers to a checklist above the area where he uploaded additional documents, but there isn’t a checklist, just a blank space.
My kid just submitted in the nick of time! After they received confirmation that the submission was successful, there was a message that they would receive an email within 24 hours. I would call tomorrow and let them know your son hasn’t received an email. Maybe there was a glitch in the system back in August?
Interesting that they removed the Priority 1 deadline, I wonder if they received more applications than they expected (or can handle) with such a tight turnaround for a decision?
I had my son check this morning before leaving for school… still no email, but his portal updated with a checklist that shows they have received the required documents, so I think everything is fine.
My child’s school counselor told them that Mines “made a mistake.” I don’t know what that means and my child didn’t inquire further. They were told the high school contacted Mines about all its students who applied by the 9/15 deadline (presumably because it was rushing to send in LOR and school profile) and was told that Mines was no longer doing the 9/15 deadline.
I called on the 16th because my kid told me they couldn’t figure out how to upload an unofficial transcript to the Common App. The person who answered let me know that they had revisited how they were dealing with the deadline. It sounded to me that they were making the changes to allow for more flexibility. So, maybe they did realize it was too tough a deadline for most schools to make?
Definitely curious to see how this all pans out. My student was able to get in their application, LORs, transcripts, etc. by the 9/15 deadline so really hoping that the decision does come out by 11/1 as initially indicated. As an OOS applicant, having a decision by then will allow them to not apply to other schools that they are less interested in.
Got an email today stating that application was complete and under review. When decision is made, an email will be sent to log in to portal and view decision.
My son received an email last night from Mines responding to a question he had on one of his supplements and they also mentioned in the email that they have moved the priority 1 deadline back to November 1, and that they are operating on a rolling admissions basis.
I don’t know where this came from. My son attended the Discover Mines event on campus September 18 and the 9/15 applications were very much under consideration. They told the students and parents to watch their inboxes for news at any time before November 1.
Not yet. In prior years’ threads, it looks like the first round was sent out the first full week in October, so maybe some people heard last week, or maybe Mines is running behind schedule?
