I’ve been thinking about returning to college but my schedule is not “traditional” college friendly. I have been looking at several online degree programs, I am skeptical. Colorado Technical University is one of them that sticks out the most in my searches. Any opinions or experiences on this place and others? I would appreciate it.
Hello Valhelmo,
Colorado Technical University is under the same ownership as American InterContinental University (Career Education Corporation), which is one of the biggest for profit education companies. Other schools like this include the University of Phoenix and DeVry University. These schools typically engage in pressure sales tactics and are very expensive. Because their primary focus is getting more students to pay tuition and increase their stock price, their reputations aren’t that great. I would highly recommend going to a non profit, or more unknown for profit. They will get you an equal or better reputation and education, as well as saving you lots of money.

And tell me, how does worsening your product increase revenue? GM is teetering over bankruptcy why? Becuase there cars were just too damn good. Since that IPO, Google has really gone down the tubes - their new services, Google Local, Video, Earth, all terrible.
If anything, go for a more known for-profit institution.
I do not know anything though about the worth of such programs. I suspect that accreditation is very important, but know little more than that.

Your comparison is so flawed I don’t know where to begin. I suppose you thought Enron was a great company to invest in?
Anyway, AIU (owned by the same company as Colorado Technical, as I previously pointed out), is now on PROBATION with its accreditor, SACS. They will lose accreditation in one year unless a number of serious quality problems are fixed. That should tell you all you need to know!
Corrupt companies like Enron are a miniscule minority among public companies. The Enron and its equivalents lend themselves to demogoguery, not dispassionate analysis. Companies do not keep customers by swindling them.
Why not compare frequency of corruption in the for-profit sector to that of the government sector? Real squeaky clean over there, right?

Look, you can argue about the merits of for-profit education based on your business theory - which does make sense in some industries and situations. But this is not one of them. I say this as a regular member of active distance learning forums where opinions are based on real experiences with each school, not some economic idea from Capitalism 101. You do not want to overpay for a well known for profit!
I received a Bachelors in business admin (hospital admin) degree from colorado technical university. I dont know yet how employers view this degree. I will fing out when I go non my next job search. I paid $25K over a period of one year. The curriculm was rigorous yet what I observed was a leniency for students who were obviously ‘off the page’. This is public knowledge as the group environment is very popular.<br>
I still am usure of the ultimate value of this degree that I, personally worked very hard to achieve and paid dearly for.
I would caution you, if you have other (more traditional options)…take them.
I’ve researched about 30 colleges online because I plan on starting soon.
If you want a really flexible program that has a pretty good reputation, check out Penn Foster. For an Associates degree it only costs a little over $5,000. Unfortunately they don’t accept Pell grants, but the monthly payments are only around $50. And they have a list of graduate schools that have accepted their credits.
Also, you can go to ripoffreport.com to check for reports on the colleges you are looking at.
Good luck in your search.
Honey, you just hang in there.
Please remember also that there are more positions available to you than you might think. When you start job hunting do not rule out any of the more administrative ( some might use the term clerical) positions in the ER of a hospital or a nursing home.
There is a huge nursing shortage and so there is also a shortage of folks who do the more like administrative work for the nurses and whatnot also.
