If you have a gmail account and if this email that advices the date for decision went to PROMOTIONS folder, then it is a reject. (sent in bulk and hence went to PROMO folder)
If the email went to PRIMARY (regular) folder, it is an admit. (fewer mails than the reject pile)
How do you like that logic?
(My mail was in PRIMARY folder and hence this uncalled for optimism
@maddieportnoy18 I think it’s just speculation; I have the old Gmail still and since it’s from Columbia it was automatically classified as “important;” I think they prob track what emails you tend to open from certain senders and stuff idek
My likely letter and every other letter from Columbia so far has landed in the “promotions” or “updates” section in my gmail (seems random), so I would really not worry about it! Good luck y’all!
I am delighted to inform you that your application to Columbia University has been carefully evaluated and that you have earned designation as a likely candidate for admission to Columbia College. The Committee on Admissions was deeply impressed with your scholastic and personal achievements, and we look forward to all you might add to our remarkable campus community.
We are sending you this email—which only a small percentage of our applicants receive—in order to celebrate your accomplishments thus far and to begin introducing you to the many features that make a Columbia education both distinctive and transformative. As long as you continue to maintain your current level of academic progress and good standing, you can expect to receive favorable word when admissions packets are mailed on March 28.
We hope you will plan to attend one of our two Columbia College Days on Campus weekends (April 8-9 or April 15-16), when events for admitted students will include a hosted overnight visit, a chance to sit in on classes, a tour of New York City and much more. In the meantime, I encourage you to explore the information and resources we have gathered for you on our Columbia Blue website and to consider the ways you would thrive as a member of our community.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Office at ugrad-likely@columbia.edu or 212-854-2522. All of us here wish you the best during the exciting months ahead.
Sincerely yours,
Jessica Marinaccio
Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid
