I haven’t, and a girl from my school last year got an interview, so I’m assuming there is an alumni who lives in my area. I’m reallllyyyy hoping for an interview though, I love Columbia so much. Does anyone know if we should have been already contacted about an interview? Or when we were supposed to be contacted by?
@agb9978@ilovebooks123 i have not. but i think the choosing for interviewing is weird. my friend submitted her application to penn weeks before i did (RD) but i got an email like three days after submitting my application, but she has yet to receive one. i wonder if its a randomized process.
so sorry to bombard this thread, but I applied to CMU and the research supplement is due tonight. it should be submitted on slide room but I don’t seem to find anything for scientific research on slide room. does anyone have an idea about that?
@sbaa123 academically, there’s absolutely no reason they could deny you. but as we all know, any ivy is a crapshoot. i think your extracurriculars are standard of every high-achieving high school student and what would distinguish you would be your supplements/essays. judging by your accomplishments thus far, i have no doubt they’re amazing! i wish you the best of luck and i really hope you get accepted!
As a student from Shanghai, China, I wonder if Columbia is selective in the interview in my area.
In some high schools, only some applicants receive interview request but some don’t.
@peonyplant Congratulations on receiving an interview! It is always better to receive an interview, than not. My suggestion is to be prepared to say 3 specific things about why you believe Columbia is the best fit for you. Also be prepared to ask questions of your interviewer. Look up your interviewer’s profile on LinkedIn or elsewhere. It may reveal areas you have in common, such as a major or extracurricular activity.
Going to have my interview Feb.19th, pretty late but better than nothing!
My stats(prepare yourselves, my stats are horrible )
ACT: 27
GPA W: 3.6
AP classes: 7
Lots of honors classes
My college essay was about how I used my Type One Diabetes to evolve my art and how my art influenced my Diabetes
My supplement was about how me and my BFF traveled to visit Columbia( by the time we got there it was 7-8PM, whoops), got lost in the middle of the rain/snow storm. I wrote about our hilarious struggles running to the subway but all the gates were locked, which led to how I found Columbia magical. (atmosphere was vibrant, academic talks between students and professors, etc.) I also talked about Columbia’s science programs and medical alumni.

@Dearspy
no. they ask you not to email admissions or anything. i am still convinced that it is like a random lottery thing, so you may or may not get one. interviews very rarely matter that much anyway. my dad does alumni interviews for brown and no matter how highly he spoke of someone to admissions, none of the people he interviewed got in.
So, just to verify because I have been slightly worried, not being contacted for an interview is not indicative of anything in terms of actual admissions, correct? Also, would a uniquely good interview be notable in the admissions process? Interviews are usually my strong suit, and I am wondering (both for Columbia and schools of its caliber) if a very good interview is valued more than a mediocre one.
