Columbia Acceptance!

Hi!.. I just applied to Columbia University Early Decision...
Well, my SAT score is not dat high..... but i just tried....
what are the chances that i can get in?
Reading: 600, Math: 750, Writing: 600

By the way, I am Korean, but I lived in China for 7 yrs...

I have pretty good Extracurricular activities..

Just tell me, if I will get rejected bcuz of SAT score,
bcuz I really dont want to hope for nothing....TT...
I mean is there little bit of chance?

sorry, but yes

??
u mean, yes, i have chance?
or sorry i dont have chance?

Im confused...

with "pretty good" ECS... you may get rejected because of the scores. "Great" ECS could have helped you a lot.

devilinwan, I know we all sound pretty noncommittal, but nothing is guaranteed, not even rejection. The average applicant has less than a 10% chance of acceptance. Someone in the usual range for Columbia (25%-75%) has at best a 20% chance. If you were way high on the SAT, a URM or had an outstanding athletic skill this might go up to 50%. On the other hand a low SAT will not absolutely lower you to 0%, but the chances are low.

Your life experience should make for some good essay material and will make you more interesting. Are you signed up for the next SAT? The 600 scores should very improvable by taking lots of practice tests and making a list of the errors you have a tendency to make. Take for example a CR score of 600. This is a raw score of 45 out of a possible 67. That's 22 points off. Eight more questions correct will take you to a 680, which is very good for a math whiz whose mother tongue is not English.

don't totally lose your confidence. the columbia rep who came to my school specifically said that it's far more likely they will reject a kid with perfect SAT's and an otherwise mediocre app than it is that they will reject a kid with mediocre SAT's with an otherwise compelling app.
the truth is, nobody on cc can give you an accurate prediction. personally, however, i don't think your confidence should be totally destroyed by your SATs.

Everyone thinks their ECs are "pretty good." "Pretty good" ECs will make you generic, and will HURT YOU.
