Yes, we are currently feeble little Juniors, but I thought I'd start a thread for those of us who want to get ahead of the game and strengthen our applications for acceptance into Columbia! Is anyone else on the forum in the same boat?

I will graduate in 2020, I hope from Columbia. Thanks for making this thread! Hopefully it will be more active next year.
@Outlooker Nice to see somebody with the same goal! Are you going to be applying ED or RD when the time comes?
@PilotKhyle I will hopefully apply ED! The main reason I want to study there is because they are one of the only colleges to offer undergrad major on financial engineering. I’ll probably do that with a double major with Computer Science
@Outlooker I’ve been looking at Financial or Industrial engineering as well!
@PilotKhyle Are you aiming for a career on Wall Street? Just curious
@Outlooker Not on the floor as a trader, but in the business.
@PilotKhyle I think we have interests in common I want to get into the finance industry but haven’t decided what exactly, trader, analyst. Whether to work at an investment bank, hedge fund, or something else. Thankfully Financial engineering at Columbia should cover all of that
@Outlooker The only limiting factor is the University’s requirement for Financial Engineers to maintain a 3.8 GPA… I don’t know how easy/difficult this is since we aren’t in the courses yet! Good luck to you though! I hope that we will be seeing eachother around in the coming years!
@PilotKhyle good luck to you too!
have any of you considered doing the summer program at columbia?
Are any of you interested in Engineering??
@queenc123 Considered it, but would rather pursue other summer activities, as the Columbia programs don’t necessarily improve chances for admission.
Currently a sophomore in SEAS majoring in operations research, I can answer questions you might have about SEAS or FE
It’s good that you guys are planning ahead–it’s never too late to have aspirations and start preparing for college. Best of luck to all of you.
As for @queenc123 's question about Columbia’s summer program, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have nothing better to do and are willing to spend a lot of money. Although it’s a lot of fun (basically enjoying three weeks of college without actually being in college), there are much better (and cheaper) programs out there than the one here at Columbia.
My brother was accepting into Columbia(chose Princeton over it) but had a 3.6 uw gap 1860 sat not many clubs or school related ecs. But he played soccer and represented USA in several tournaments for u15 u14 u13 u12 u11 tournaments around the world.
@ballislife @ColumbiaGenie I’m really interested in pursuing a career in finance and want to pursue this at Columbia university. I am in the process of launching an NPO. This is what I’ve done so far up to my junior year and I was wondering, since you guys attend Columbia, if you guys may have an idea of what it really takes to get accepted to Columbia.

@ColumbiaGenie have you done it? I’m interested in applying but I want to hear about what to expect first
Columbia had a record almost 36,500 applications this year.
Just so you guys know, in addition to the 3.8 requirement, you also have to apply to be a financial engineering major. My RA is a junior financial engineering major and currently programs for JP Morgan Chase.
