^ They couldn’t. After all, they got in Columbia through a less noble means.

From what I understand, there is not a real legitimate comparison between Harvard Extension and Columbia GS. For one, there is no admission criteria for Harvard Extension unlike GS. The argument for GS is its intergration w/ Columbia College, the concept that the same classes are taken, taught by the same professors, and according to the GS homepage, the receipt of the same degree.

And Epaminondas, if you are any representative of Columbia College, certainly attending there is nothing to be envious about.

Well, it’s not technically the “same” degree. The CC diploma is in Latin, the GS says in plain English “The School of General Studies.”

That is a good point. While GS does herald the degrees as the same, that is an obvious difference isnt it.

to be honest, nothing matters in the long run. A future employer will not care about what your diploma says, he’ll just know that you graduated from Columbia University. It is up to the graduate to prove himself able to handle the work.

Future employer will also just konw that you (Harvard Extension graduate) graduated from Harvard University. A bachelors degree from Harvard which is same degree as Harvard College degree.

Thank you
I will try my best to get rid of Chinglish, though I guess the best way is living in the US.

zzgirl, you are trivializing this issue by assuming that GS is to CC is the same as HES is to HC. Well, most would argue that GS students are far more integrated that students of Harvard Extension school.

@hexie, America is very different from China. You learn alot if you do not lock yourself in the WC all the time. Don’t be afraid, in the US it’s not people mountain people sea.

What? 10char

Live it up zzgirl. Next year, when you get out of high school, you’re going to city college.

These people are claiming that Harvard Extension is same as Harvard College

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/315735-harvard-extension-school-7.html

Crooked, it’s a Chinese joke. There is an idiom in Mandarin that, if translated character by character, means “people mountain people sea.”

I heard that it’s a recurring gaff on Chinese talk shows or something.

Ohhhh…
“ren shan ren hai” means that there are a lot of people

Did I miss something, why are you posting that in the Columbia University forum?

ignore zzgirl, she keeps on making the comparison between HES and GS, no matter how many times we point out the difference between the two and their relationships with the undergraduate college.

Don’t waste your breath on someone clearly bereft of rationality and reasoning skills.

Epaminodas, you’re a cool cat.

Thank you! Are you still going to attend Starfleet or changed your mind to GS?

I applied to Starfleet VEA (very Early Action). Since the main campus doesn’t open until 2161, I’m going to attend Columbia GS. It’s too bad, really. Had I known about the delay, I wouldn’t have taken the 26 mandatory APs (AP Klingon Table Manners is a joke, by the way).

All kidding aside, I’m thrilled. I understand that the different admissions criteria can invite criticism about the school on the whole. And, I’d rather not waste anytime considering the language differences on diplomas.

The best way for me to integrate into CU is to be myself, share my genuine affection for learning, cheer on fellow scholars, and excel at my studies. You won’t catch me stirring up debates about financial aid - GS has offered me a VERY generous package.

A lot of GS students have, historically, made themselves irrelevant to the university’s goals by spending their CU careers attempting to blur the lines between CC and GS. I’d much rather take the opportunity to prove myself academically and conduct research that genuinely excites me. You won’t catch me complaining or spending much time considering my place in the campus, social hierarchy.

You will, however, find me anytime you need a friend on campus.
