Columbia College vs. School of General Studies

2 more weeks.??? Aren’t they supposed to let us know in the middle of May? Am I missing something?

It’s 4 to 6 weeks says on their website. I am international student, I submitted everything on April 1st so I might hear back from them starting May. today is the 20th so about 10 more days? before I either get that call or a rejection letter in the mail.

Hi everyone!

I am waiting as well… The days are moving very slowly haha

I was wondering about this English Level test- do you have any info about it?

I heard that only students who got accepted do this test. Is that correct?

Last question, Decisions for International students are sent by mail ?

Thanks a lot, have a good day,

Adam

not sure how they notify international students. about the test do you mean ECT? or other? You have to score at least a level 8(highest level is 10) or TOEFL above 100 and I think you have need this when you submit your app. I know time is passing by very very slow. And when I called yesterday they said the waiting time is actually 6 to 8 weeks. so more time to wait

Hi zhaozhao, sorry for the late response. I took the TOEFL and got a 105. I was actually asking about this test that they divide the students into levels of English- just before studying actually starts. Do you know anything about that?
Btw- did you do an interview?
So you basically mean that at the earliest- Mid May??? :frowning:
Good luck!!!
Adam

Hi Adam not sure about people who have taken the TOEFL but I think some one said to me that if you reach above 100 on the test you don’t need the language classes. I took the ECT and I didn’t reach LEVEL 10 so for me if I were accepted I will need to take classes in the ALP program along with some of the college classes.

I haven’t heard anything yet, so not sure if I will be asked for an interview.
I was hoping to hear back from them earlier like beginning of May, however when I called they told me it’s 6 to 8 weeks, well if that’s the case then yeah mid May? who knows maybe we’ll hear back sooner.

Good luck to you too.:p

Hi, thanks for your help.

Hope to hear some good news soon. If there will be any new updates I will post another

message…

Adam

hey guys,

I applied on April 1. I have not been contacted by the GS Admissions stuff regarding anything, neither interview. I am so anxious now. Might it be that they already decided to reject me, so there is no point to … :[

Or maybe they have not come down to my appl yet? a couple weeks ago they told me my appl is in queue to be evaluated:(((( I am sooo cofused and anxious right now. ■■■.

Hi goharik19, how are you?

I am waiting as well for this envelop/email to arrive during the next days…
I did not hear about anyone who did get a decision. I would be happy tho to hear that someone did get something…

Anyways, not getting the decision doesn’t mean you got rejected. You should get a yes/no answer in any case.

Moreover, zhaozhao wrote in a previous message that the Admission Office told him it would take a Minimum of 4-6 weeks…

If you know anything new I will be happy to hear about it.
Like you, I am eagerly waiting to get a decision

Good luck!!

Adam

Thnx for encouragement, Adam, are u an international? Let us keep encouraging each other till that dreadful day comes! I am from Armenia, would be glad to keep in touch! I had good test scores, but I am sooo worried. I ADORE Columbia, just wanna go there period.

I left a message on the school’s facebook page, and the answer is that international students for the fall 2010 will be notified within six weeks of submission of a completed application. Personally for me I was told in person that my application will be reviewed in about two wks( I think this was about three wks ago, so I still have 2 to 3 wks before I heard anything) And hopefully I don’t get a mail from them cause we all know what that means. let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Look guys, I have the following issue that keeps bothering me. When my University official handed me the envelope with my academic transcript, I noticed that as if she had signed and then closed the envelope. I felt bad to say anything, so I just mailed it to Columbia. Now I am sooo damned nervous, might they reject me coz of this? I mean, it were only the transcripts, and there were the contacts of the University officials, they can verify , right??

Gooooooosh, when will this nightmare be over?

Zhaozhao, where are u from? ASIA???)))

yes, but now I am live in new york city, why?

I don’t really think that’s an issue, if they don’t think that is legit they would have contacted you or if they questioned it they will ask you about it. Or really if you had doubt you really should have double checked with the admission officers and see what they think, they would tell you if you should sent another copy of it.

Hey goharik19,

Yea i’m international as well, nice to meet you! Will be happy to keep in touch as well!

I do not think you have anything to worry about, i agree with zhaozhao. Just ask them and they will tell you what to do. I am sure everything is OK but just check to be 100% sure.

zhaozhao, I know I asked you already but… I have a question about the decision, why is getting it by mail means something bad? Do you know if International students get the decision by regular mail or by FEDEX?

So basically we are supposed to wait for another 1-2 weeks?

Another day passed :)

Are you notified a fedex package is on its way to you by Columbia (other than if they call you to let you know you’ve been officially been admitted)?

I keep getting spam emails saying I’m receiving a FedEx package and I get excited. It always turns out to be someone from another country saying they’ve found several million dollars and only need $10,000 to split it with me lol.

well, for me I am currently living in NEW YORK CITY, so I just assume that they would notify me just like the other ones who applied. You know FEDEX for acceptance and regular mail if you are rejected or waitlisted. Because from what I read they include the official acceptance letter in the FEDEX package. But I really am not sure how would they notify you if you are currently reside in a foreign country, Sorry if i confused you isradam1.

I know finally another day has gone by, and I think that for the ones who applied around by the deadline (April 1st) we could expecting some news begin in May.

Just for interest. Are u applying as a domestic or as an international?

Thnx for advice

Hi again,

zhaozhao thanks anyways, we shell see very soon.

I have a feeling that the decision won’t arrive with FEDEX service to international students.
It would cost a fortune. But maybe i’m wrong, I don’t really know.

I just got a package from out of my country… I thought for a moment that it’s the decision, but it was something I got on ebay :frowning:

At least I now know that i’m not expecting anything else beside the decision…

Have a good weekend!
