Columbia College vs. School of General Studies

Hi bobyboy007,

They asked for the same thing from me. Any idea why? Do you think that’s an encouraging sign? I turned in my application for RD but was not able to complete all transcript request til 21st of May. How long have you been waiting?

Anyone here who got accepted at GS with a scholarship? If so, how much- if you don’t mind answering that question?

Hi Ayan,

Don’t know why they ask for the spring grades but hopefully we will know soon.

Best of luck…

@ayan - I believe the average award is something like $6400 for the year.

Thanks, AMorrison! It isn’t really much, is it. What are your options to augment the difference?

Bboy,
I recvd yet another request for spring term grades. So I guess they’re still deciding…

From what I understand there are a few options to make up the difference including private loans and work study. More info here: http://www.gs.columbia.edu/types-aid-available

yessssssssssssssssssssssssss just got the package!!!

The scholarship ranges from 4-8k for your first year. That can go up, stay the same, or go down, depending on your academic performance during your first academic school year.

Hi ComaPrison,

Am I too late for the aid for this coming Fall?

I have no idea. But there’s no harm in applying A.S.A.P. and seeing if you get anything.

I still have not heard anything from them -not even a rejection letter. Did they notify you bobyboy or you just received the package without notice from them? I’ve emailed them for follow up but no response just yet. In any case, I’m really glad you got in. Have a great time at Columbia!!

They called and a few days after I got the package. I wish you good luck and hope to see you there too.

Comma,

Did you write a short essay in the GS scholarship? is that mandatory to write the short statement?

Hey bobyboy007,

Could you tell us what your stats were before you got accepted? Like how you did on the GSAE, your G.P.A and extra curriculars? Also how many credits did you have to transfer from your previous college?

It’s an online application on the columbia gs website. https://www.gs.columbia.edu/new-student-scholarship-application

I wrote a little about my financial/family background, and my PTK affiliation + PTK identification #, etc.

Thanks. Are you on storybook? what’s your name?

I thought I’d post that I got a phone call Friday saying I was accepted. I submitted my app early decision or whatever but got deferred to regular decision because they wanted my spring grades. Sent those grades in about a month ago. No idea if I can attend since the cost is SO much and the aid will probably be so little. Columbia is where I REALLY want to go but taking out like 100gs in loans–Im a junior transfer–seems kind of stupid since I plan on attending med school and I’m in at UCLA and have a full ride. UGH! Decisions decisions!

Hey all! I got in last Monday. I interviewed the previous Thursday, then got a call on Monday. A fedex was waiting for me when I got home. I’ll be attending in the fall, and can’t wait.

Feel like I’m the last one standing…no news is good news, right?

@ bobyboy007

When they called, did they interview you?

Ayan613,

Did you apply regular decisions as well and did you get all your materials in on time? I did not get all my materials in on time and am hoping the delay in hearing back from them is due to that. Then again I haven’t heard of anyone getting rejected yet so maybe this week they are preparing for rejections. :-(
