Columbia Common APp? Recc question as well!

Does anyone know if Columbia will begin using Common Application exclusively? Also, do you guys think it makes a difference?

On another note, I was perusing the common app just now and for the teacher reccomendations, it says it has to be an "academic subject". They list (English, Math, Sciences, SOcial Studies). Does 'Economics' (both elective and core class) count as social studies? I am extremely close with my economics teacher,he's taught me for 3 years so far (1 year next year too), I'm on the Fed teach he coaches (we won 2nd last year), and so many other things. I really want a recc from him. So can i get one from him?

columbia doesnt use the common app at all (exclusively or inclusively), and yes, economics counts as social studies and is definitely an "academic subject," so def go for that rec.
