Columbia dorms

how are the dorms at columbia? how are the singles? How large are the rooms and singles?

I got a Wallach single as a freshman, and so far, I've been really happy with it. It's only 99sq ft, but it's enough. I would definitely recommend it.

^any bugs, cockroaches, etc?

I'm SUPER happy with my John Jay dorm. I absolutely love it. It's clean and bright.

Really? I visited in JJ and I definitely like Carman better. Your bathrooms seem nicer than ours though, like a cozy sort of feeling. Ours feel like you're in a prison cell.

Carman rooms are VERY large. The wider dorms could probably hold like 5 more people sleeping on the floor and the skinny dorms could hold like 3. A JJ single is kind of small but it's definitely livable. The doubles are walkthroughs so you just close a door and BAM it's a single. I've yet to visit LLC or furnald but I the kids at Furnald say that the rooms are pretty nice. Plus, you can have a bit more privacy and a retreat from loud people there. Last night, about 12 kids just decided to bounce into our Carman suite at abou 2 AM.

I've yet to see a cockroach in Carman but I did see a dead one in the dining hall at John Jay. I'm on the 13th floor so that may be a part of it. There's pictures of all the dorms on the columbia wiki too.

The B2 line or the A1/C1 line? Those are the crappiest rooms in the building. I had one.

go read the helpful threads forum, there are many posts about this kind of stuff

B2. Haha

And apparently one of our suite mates found a cockroach, but I've yet to see one.

90% of bug problems are the result of people leaving food out, or not disposing of it properly. hartley/wallach will be bad simply because you guys have kitchens and some of your suitemates, not feeling a sense of collective responsibility, will be slobs. by comparison, JJ/CAR, not having kitchens, will likely be fine.

it's a rule of life, it's nothing specific about columbia's dorms. you leave pots out with rice, or let cracker crumbs hit the floor, you're going to get bugs. it doesn't take much.

OH **** YOU HAVE NO ****ING IDEA.

so i moved in like a week ago. my dorm room was supposed to be 175 sq feet like it said online, but i got there and me and my dad measured it with a tape measure, and it's barely 90. oh yeah, it's a double too. the beds are bunkede and i have the top bunk, and my roommate masturbates constantly to this website that is pictures of college professors naked. there are like 50,000 koreans here (including me). i have so much competition to be the smartest korean on kampus that i have already gotten all the book for my classes and i have appx. 90% done with the reading list. i heard that if you don't start early here, you fail and die and suck at life, and that is unacceptable.

one more thing: i have counted 27 rats here, 12 cockroahces and there is dried up feces all over the place. especially in front of butler library. also the security guard in the lobby of my dorm is in a comatose state and i'm pretty sure he is ****ing my neighbor. oh yeah, and the intersection of broadway and 115th at the NW corner is covered in cottage cheese and cum.

^hahaha lol, oh line909, that was great, LOL, haven't read something quite as funny in a while, thanks :)

Hrmmmm, I want to meet your neighbor.

I have had the same experience. But it's cool cuz my boarding school's rooms were triples and were 65 sqare feet. But cottage cheese and cum? I haven't noticed that here. Howevever, there is a fair amount of vaginal discharge in odd places, such as smeared on walls, on ceilings, in subway cars, etc.

et. al.

One of the kids on the floor had a cockroach!

as a pet?

(10)

No the found one. They trapped it under a garbage can and then got some other kid to come flush it down the toilet.

that seems like overkill, you might as well whack it with a shoe and then clean it up and toss it out.

funny post BTW. the only thing he left out were classes and the dining hall.

i am in high school and i was wondering if the rooms are okay are the shows pubic are your roommates okay and would you reccoment applying. i have 1924 on my psat and a 4.009 gap

You usually shouldn’t recover threads that are this old but I would say try applying (I hope you aren’t a senior if you have to tell us your PSAT score). You might get into Columbia but try to improve your score when you take the SAT. The rooms are good if you luck out. I have a 160 sq ft single in Furnald and I am very happy with it. The showers are communal in my dorm and vary in form. However, they aren’t public (if you mean that people can see each other naked, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective  ).
