How's Housing?

So?

What is a good selection for a first-year?

While I think I'd want the privacy of a single room, like in John Jay, I don't want an anti-social residence hall.

What does any current Columbia student have to say about the housing in general?

this is going to stir up a massive deabte, and since there are other threads on it, i will summarize:

john jay: +: singles, social, dining hall and JJs down stairs -:less social than carman, easier to feel alienated than in carman, not as quiet as furnald, crappy bathrooms, building isn't that great, no comp lab, no A/C

furnald: +: singles, new building, better bathrooms, quiet, sophomores, A/C
-:anti social, sophmores

carman: party dorm, very social, private bathrooms, comp lab, A/C
-: LOUD, wild, doubles

LLC: +: kitchen, common sitting area, social without huge parties, singles, big suites, sophmores.
-: not so great bathrooms, kitchen gets dirty, loud at times, suites can be hit or miss some have a bunch of sophmores who love each other and exclude you (most don't), sophmores, no A/C

sophmores are less friendly than freshmen, but are still quite friendly, and if you don't pss them off, they're a great source of advice and help.

these days carman gets the most applicants, followed by john jay, it's easy to get a furnald or LLC single, you don't want a double anywhere other than carman.

John Jay is definitely not antisocial :)
Also it's a short walk to the comp lab, you don't even have to step outside (sort of)

dont bother summarizing, there are 2-3 VERY LONG AND VERY COMPREHENSIVE threads about this listed in the helpful threads post.

yeah, you want a summary, I got a summary right here:

check a few posts down in this thread

wow. sorry about that...
I really need to learn how to navigate this site.

ha. silly me.
and thanks!
