Could someone please explain the program at Columbia University for early admission of high school juniors to me? I am an accelerated student, currently a junior in high school, who just turned 14 and will be completing all my schools graduation requirements, including 5 APs, by the end of this year. I want to apply to colleges to at least have the option of attending in the fall of 2018, but I’m worried that my SAT scores (lower half of the 1400s) aren’t high enough to get me into an Ivy unless they understand my special situation.
Never heard of this program. Can you provide some more details.
Frankly, as a 14 year old with SAT scores in the lower half of the 1400s you shouldn’t be considering, and are extremely unlikely to be accepted at an Ivy at your age. A 1450 is an extremely good score for a 14 year old, but keep in mind that over 400 kids 12 and under score over 700 on at least one section of the SAT every year, and completing the minimum graduation requirements at your HS does not automatically indicate that you have the maturity, stats or qualifications that will convince an Ivy league admissions department.
Agree; when you take midterms and finals in the same classes as the SAT 1550’s at Columbia, you are not going to get extra points for being a 14-year-old.
Hello Juliak709,
I am also a 14 year old graduating in June also applying to Columbia in the Fall of 2018. I am from the NY Metro area so I am going through the same issues. I would apply as a senior and if you don’t hit the school of choice reject your diploma you can reset and take classes the following year. The SAT scores are merely one factor and if the rest of the application is compelling I don’t believe that score won’t keep you out. I can’t tell you how many 1600 SAT with 4.3 GPA’s stories of people have been rejected by MIT, Columbia, Harvard etc. I will send you a PM with the details of what I am doing hopefully can compare notes!
High school juniors are occasionally admitted.

My dad matriculated at age 16 in 1945.
Is it possible for me to close this thread? My sat scores and college goals have changed since this
