would it be negative if i sent the page 217 essay from Penn as my main columbia essay? it's obviously from penn so idk if they would like that..

Yeah, it would definitely not look as good. Because besides just wanting qualified people, colleges want people who want them as well. You should avoid using an essay like that one for Columbia.

why don't you just use the general college application essay that every school requires?

well...if i leave off the topic/prompt, the essay wouldn't be obviously from Penn...but it would also have no topic / prompt and the essay question "page 217 of your 300 page autobiography" leads to weird essayss...

Not sure what you're trying to say. The essay will obviously be for Penn whether you include the prompt or not.. and why wouldn't you include the prompt for an essay like that?

Just take our advice and use a more general essay.

i don't think you can figure out that this essay is for Penn without the prompt.
it doesn't "directly" answer the question.
i just really like this essay and i think it shows my creativity and my passion.
it never says "here is my autobiography"
it is just kind of like an episode from the future

basically it answers the general question "describe your future" or something like that

Ah. Well, you may be right. your call i guess.

My opinion on recycling essays is that you should definitely make use of a great essay you wrote for a different prompt. There's no reason to reinvent the wheel -- and even produce an inferior piece of writing if you've already given the first essay your best. However, you should tweak/edit it so it doesn't sound like it's from a different school's essay.

do you think i should title it? if you read it it's very sci-fi-ish and reads like a chapter taken out of a futuristic novel =/

What's the topic for Columbia essay anyway? Or it's pretty broad, so that way, you may use your essay for Penn?

It's basically like "in 250-500 words, write an essay that conveys to the reader a sense of who you are." that's it.

I will be starting my CU essay shortly since i didn't ED there. Anyone who got accepted or is willing to give suggestions.. I'd greatly appreciate it! thanks.
