I'm wondering if I could use the page 217 essay for my personal statement for other commonapp colleges..

why couldn't you? as long as you fit it to the other options. or just do the "other" prompt.

I'm probably not going to, because I think it's obvious to other colleges that it's Penn's page 217 prompt or something similar, and if the colleges know that it makes you look lazy/not incredibly interested in their college.

Well, it's not that im being lazy, its just that I think this essay really is better than the original essay I was gonna use. I actually spent a lot of time writing and editing the original essay, but I just realized that the other was better. Any thoughts?

Change it to page 331 of your 400 page autobiography and you should be in the clear ;)

I've seen the same topic on the Common Application, so there is no reason to worry.

If you are going to apply Penn's "rival" schools, I would not recommend you to reuse it. They will know it's a Penn essay and may think that you are more interested in Penn than in their schools.

I wouldn't reuse it. it's not specific to any college, but i did tailor it to Penn
I write "safe" essays for safeties, riskier essays for long shots like harvard and something in between for penn.

I'd reuse it if it was applicable. Unfortunately, it's not.

Shoulda thought about that when I wrote it, I guess.
