Columbia FA

@hopingforbetter
If you live in the States, call them.
If you don’t, fax and fax again, and email and email them again until you get a response… Try calling them even if you’re not in the States. That would be the fastest way to know if they did indeed receive your materials or not. I think that’s what I would do.

Best of luck… Don’t stress too much! FA deadlines are usually pretty flexible.

OMZAC My son logs in with applicant ID and his birthday and there is a tab for documents. Under that tab is a list of all the documents, why they were requested (disbursement, packaging) and “Received”.

On the messages tab there is a generic note about sending any missing tax information not sent through IDOC to the FA office directly.

He has not been accepted (yet :D)

@Jamiecakes Son has exact message as yours. LOL!! I guess we are just grasping at straws! Good luck to all! We’ll find out soon enough.

So did everyone recieve this email?

Dear XXXXX:

Thank you for your application for admission to Columbia University.

We are writing to remind you of the March 1st Regular Decision financial aid deadline and to encourage you to review the status of your financial aid materials by visiting <a href=“Admissions | Columbia University in the City of New York”>Admissions | Columbia University in the City of New York. Log in using your Columbia University Applicant ID number (which begins C00…) and date of birth, and then select Financial Aid and follow the login instructions for first-time users. The online document tracking system is available until Monday, March 25th at 5:00pm EST.

Yes got it a couple days ago.

Yes, we received it a few days ago also. Son’s letter says that his financial aid application is complete and that they will contact him if they need more info. Also asks him to contact Columbia FA if he has any questions.

It says my foreign tax returns have not been received even though i live in a country without a tax system and I already sent my parents’ 2012 income statements. Did anyone else have this problem?

…

^^ Email or call them up?

I had a similar problem where the tax returns weren’t showing up on the tracking page. When I emailed them, they told me about they couldn’t read the faxes and suggested I re-send it via email.

Did anyone receive an email from the Director of Financial Aid indicating that their financial aid application was complete and thanking them for applying to Columbia?

^^Yeah.

This 10char thing sucks.

Perhaps the better question would be: Is anyone NOT receiving these e-mails?

To me, they sound pretty procedural.

On some schools, there seems to be a correlation between what shows up in the FA portal and eventual acceptance. Don’t know if this is the case with Columbia.

@Omzac, Yes my daughter did.

i didnt receive that email cause my financial aid application isnt complete :P

Yeah I got it a few days ago.

@Omzac, Congratulations!
My D’s financial system was updated on Mar 18th again. Is this good sign?
And when you click the application status, can you see your son’s name?

I can see his name o the financial aid portal and there are many tabs for loans awards etc., but his name does not appear on the admissions status. There is just a generic message about notifications there. Good luck!

Do you guys know how good Columbia’s financial aid generally is? I know tons of colleges (UChicago, for instance) have the 100% need met policy, but apparently people on CC have mentioned that UChicago’s aid “sucks” and so on. How’s Columbia at this? I’m actually a bit worried about if I can afford to attend now.

UChicago’s aid does suck. The calculator projected 10k and they only gave me 5 lol. Columbia’s calculator projected 20k so I’m hoping for at least 10.

Edit: Also as a Rabi Scholar, does your financial aid package get enhanced? I know the Science Research Fellows get all their loans turned into grants but is that also true for Rabi?
