@joelfromthemoon @nrivera12 I am from BMCC too! They did say that they take a big portion of students from our school what are you guys studying? I’m still waiting to hear but it’s awesome just to know so many from BMCC will be there!
Hey y’all congrats for acceptance! My brother is still waiting his result :S He submitted the applicant 8th Feb. Anybody has an idea what is going on ?!
@mamabear336 I will be studying Economics. I think that you will hear soon, from previous threads not everyone hears on March 1/May 1.
@Gaspardandlisa I just called the office of admissions and they said my application is still under review so I’m guessing your brother is under review as well. They weren’t specific as to when we will receive a notification.
@Gaspardandlisa they are still reviewing applications and scheduling interviews. I submitted everything by February 20th and I was asked to interview next week. Hopefully you will hear back soon!
App Type: Transfer
College/ Country: Elite liberal arts college
College GPA: 3.55
3.7 for a semester @ Columbia
HS GPA: 3.8 (?)
Testing: SAT, ACT, AP
ECs: Youngest software engineer at a Fortune 50 company, rugby league player, social media consultant/influencer, Mandarin Chinese translator, charity cyclist, and bartender/dancer
Hooks: Openly gay athlete, Native American, first generation college student, low-income background
Hey guys I also got accepted for the fall semester, to which I’m highly surprised by considering everyone stats and ec are far more impressive than mine
SAT: my sat’s were old 10 year olds, but they still accepted it. Horrible SAT grades 1300 (below average)
High school G.P.A 3.0
College G.P.A 4.0 (BMCC)
EC: Army veteran, phi theta kappa and psychology club
Application: wrote the bare minimum for my essay 1500 words, grammatical mistakes etc( i was in a time crunch and notice the mistakes after my submission). So I assumed my essay would’ve been my downfall but I guess it wasn’t. I didn’t write the common app essay. The only “extra” thing I did for my application was submit a resume.
@nrivera12 @mamabear336 @jennysong Yay! There are lots of us from BMCC! We should do a meetup
@joelfromthemoon I am a BMCC applicant as well but haven’t got a decision. Hopefully I do and I would love to meet up with y’all!
Hey guys,
I applied Feb 23rd and was accepted yesterday at 5:05 PM! Here are my stats:
High School GPA: 3.1
College GPA: 3.73 (UMUC)
SAT: 1490/1600 (New SAT)
GSAE
Major: Computer Science
I’m a network engineer working for a defense contractor. I served 6 years active-duty Air Force, and I’m now a reservist. I was initially only going to take the GSAE, but I decided to take the SAT in March in case I didn’t get into Columbia. Even though my SAT results came out on March 23rd, past the deadline for supplemental materials, Columbia still accepted the results. I feel like Neilson Phu’s College Panda SAT Writing book prepared me very well for the GSAE.
I worked with Service2School and they were a godsend. I definitely recommend that all future veterans applying reach out to them.
On my essay, I spent about half of it going over my history up to the present and the other half going over my future plans and why Columbia.
I’m thinking about deferring to Spring 2020 because my girlfriend’s application to the New York State Bar Association is looking like it will take about 6 months to process.
It would be cool if there was a Facebook group for newly admitted students. I see that there were some in the past. I’m going to ask the admissions office if they create one. If not, I’ll do it.
I would love to have a meet up with everyone from BMCC who got accepted, that’s a great idea since I will know someone when I attend… would you guys want to add each other on facebook?
hey guys! my bro just got his interview! Is it a good sign? I looked up last year’s thread, nobody was rejected after the interview though. Is the interview for accpet or reject? THanks!
The interview is a chance for the admissions team to gain a more complete view of the candidate. People have been rejected after their interview, so don’t think it’s a given that he’s accepted. It’s not an acceptance or a rejection. Good luck!
@Gaspardandlisa The interview is to determine whether or not he is a good candidate. The admissions committee might feel that they do not have a full idea on who the candidate is and what they will be able to offer, they might have some questions on things said in the essay, or something totally different. The interview is for the committee to get a better feel and idea of the candidate and their character, their potential contributions, and whatever else they need to know. A lot of times, in past threads, it seems that these candidates were in good standing and were just on the fence, and their interviews served as the final nudge that will help the committee believe they were right in feeling that they are a good candidate.
In my own personal experience, they had a couple questions about some things I said in my essay that they wished I had more room to talk about, and things that they wanted me to expand on. I had to wait a couple weeks past my anticipated admissions decision date for my application status update to change, but I was accepted in the end.
hey guys I registered for the May 9 Mandatory Academic planning session, hope to see you guys there.
@jennysong did you have to pay the $500 in order to register for the planning session?
@coachmatt no i didn’t
@jennysong May 9th is a “remote” planning session. Maybe it is online?
