Hi, I really want to go to an ivy league school but truthfully, with my grades, I don't think I make it. I just started CC and my current GPA is 3.0. Do you guys think its better to go to the UCs (excluding LA,Berkeley, Davis) or Columbia school of General Studies?

There’s really no objective answer to this question. It depends on what you’re looking for it.

If you’re a CA resident it’ll be easier for you to transfer into a UC, and it’ll probably also be less expensive. You could also apply to both and see what happens, and go to the UC if the financial aid is not up to your needs at GS.

The schools themselves may make the decision for you, based on which ones admit you with sufficient financial aid. If your college GPA is 3.0, you may want to apply more widely than to just Columbia and three of the more selective UCs.

Are you a CA resident?
Then, a UC would make more sense but with a 3.0 even that may be a stretch.
Do you have the means to be full pay at GS Columbia?

@cgxy96,

Hi. My name is Christina and I’m a current tour guide at GS.

GS offers a wide array of financial aid options, and roughly 70% of GS students receive some form of financial aid. You can visit the website to learn more about the types of aid available: <a href=“Applying for Undergraduate Financial Aid | School of General Studies”>https://gs.columbia.edu/financing-your-education.

I encourage you to apply! Included in your acceptance packet would be a financial aid letter that includes the amount of your award. You can always decline an offer for admission, if you determine that attending would not be financially feasible for you.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
