answering my own question here: i guess a lot of people who applied reg decision received a notice around December 7th
@keytocake i believe reg decision is rolling…prob early december in your case, as you said
@TheManInBlack ahh thanks…good luck to everyone! i’ll post when i hear back
I get pretty obsessive about this, and it looks like the past threads were a wash relating to when people started getting their decisions. Some years it was starting on the 9th with most people being accepted by the 15th, and some years nobody heard until the 14th or 15th. So basically even if people get accepted today or tomorrow, don’t be discouraged because you still have a good chance for next week.
@Everynight actually im not so sure about that. it looks like usually the acceptances are sent out first, followed by rejections a week or so later. So if people start saying they got in, and I dont hear anything for a couple days, its prob not a good sign.
i read from past posts that people usually got their acceptance emails at about 5pm, also some got acceptance calls at 10 or 11 am. but so far NOTHING! I can’t believe even Monkey hasn’t gotten his acceptance yet, since he seems to be in.
Yeah I’m thinking if no one hears by the end of tomorrow it probably won’t happen until Monday
I guess no one got the notification today. Is the admission office opened for tomorrow? I thought they are closed for veterans day…
Based on the academic calendar, the University offices are open tomorrow https://gs.columbia.edu/academic-calendar
@ridiarte Thanks for the confirmation. Good luck to you!!
Best honest, how many times a day do YOU check for an admissions decision?
At least 10. I have a borderline internal breakdown every time I get an email. Ive set my account to send me an email every time someone posts which makes it worse.
@Everynight lmao!
theres nothing to really “check.” i have been stupidly logging into my application portal every morning and night, delusionally thinking that it might magically change. never does. im not checking the financial aid portal anymore, that one just makes me upset.
nobody really heard back yet??? what could be taking them so long? last year decisions were released on the 9th. Ahhhh…its hard to not want to know the outcome, it’s only our futures on the line.
@TheManInBlack I do the same thing… I don’t know why I check it because I would receive an email if anything had changed but still, I find myself checking 4ish times a day.
What are y’all’s stats?
@ridiarte I have a 4.0 as a biochemistry major at a community college, and will have about 60 credits after this semester. Have a pretty crazy story about drug addiction and a few years on the merry-go-round of being shut up in institutions and homeless, failing out of college in the beginning of my run, then finally succeeding at college this past year and a half after I’d been clean for a little while. So that was my essay, then a recommendation that almost made me cry. At this point, I’m okay with whatever happens, as I’m sure there are people that have better stats than me. I got like a 3.1 in high school and have SAT scores that were pretty trash, not to mention the 0.33 gpa when I first went to college. I know if I don’t get in then it wasn’t meant to be, but I’m still pretty obsessive about it lol. What about you?
@Everynight I see a lot of similarities in our stories… I also got a 3.1 in HS and a 1550 on the SAT in March 2010. I was a pretty subpar student even though I tried to be like my big sis and stuff my schedule with AP’s. After HS I spent a few years traveling, working in war zones as a civilian and on a few comm dev projects in Eastern Europe (all in my essay). I came back and tried CC but flunked out. I got married, had a kid and am trying college again where I have a 4.0 as a physical anthro major. My letter of rec seriously made me cry too. I feel like I will probably get in and have felt confident in my app for a while, but most people probably do. I had to apply an academic renewal to my early flunk out but now I’m finishing up completion of the honors program at my local CC, have presented a large research project at Stanford and a few other academic achievements in the past year. I think we will both get in TBH!
You know what my trick is? Plan everything as if you arn’t getting in. I’m already looking at housing, financial aide and classes for my back up here in Cali. This way I won’t get disappointed, but if I do get in it’ll be a nice pleasant surprise.
My stats:
-Seeking 2nd bachelor’s degree
-First bachelor’s was in Religious Studies at a little-known college. Went back to school last year to study Comp Sci & Physics at my community college. It’s not easy to get into a good graduate program without an undergraduate degree in these fields, so a second B.A. made sense.
-First bachelor GPA: 3.96, Outstanding Achievement Award
-My return to school 2016-17: 4.0 GPA, 30 credits
-High school performance was garbage, but that was a long time ago so whatever…I talked about it in my essay
-SAT: 1510 (740 R&W, 770 M; 99th percentile)
-Attended Stanford Summer Session this past summer, earned 9 credits
-Extra-curricular Silicon Valley Innovation Academy (SVIA) at Stanford University…which I did in service of my interest in Computer Science/Technology
-Excellent, 2-3 page letter of recommendation from Stanford professor
-Other recommendation from community college professor…didn’t get to read it, but from what he told me it sounded decent
-Essays: I did both the regular essay and the optional. In retrospect my essay could have been better. I tried to tell a narrative of my initial interest in spirituality, leading to me earning a degree in Religious Studies, and my subsequent transition to technology and science. Some parts I think were good, other parts I think I got bogged down in the details and it may come off as dry or boring. I’m slightly worried about that.
Anyway, we’ll see what happens! Maybe Monday’s the day, but I have a gut feeling they’re gonna push this all the way til the 15th.
@lemonpledge45 Agreed. Been trying to do the exact same thing. Actually my backup plan is in Cali as well.
@lemonpledge45 what’s up with California’s out of state tuition? UCLA has an amazing biochem program but I didn’t even bother applying because they don’t give any scholarships and it’s 60 grand a year. Do they want to just keep it in-state?
@everynight in a way yes. Not sure how many of the UCs participate but I know all of the CSU’s primary focus is to service students in their local area. It gets more competitive even if you live just a couple cities away.
