alright, let’s get it!
INCOME: about $11,000/year (primarily reliant on Social Security)
Ethnicity: Latina
GPA: 89.09 (horrible) can’t tell if there’s any growth with it at this point.
SAT: 1170 . ACT: 20
AP/IB: I’ve taken a total of 7 AP Classes. 1 sophomore yr, 3 junior year, and 3 this year.
Anticipated Major: I honestly can’t decide… I’ll be pursuing the pre-med track but as for major, I was thinking something along the lines of Neuroscience and Behavior, or Psychology, maybe even Biology.
EXTRACURRICULARS:
-One of the most outstanding (given my commitment) would be an after school program I’ve been in since 8th grade. (4 years going strong)
- I worked with Carnegie Hall for a few months my sophomore year in a big showcase.
-The summer after sophomore year, I joined a Columbia University (Mailman School) internship related to Health and Wellness (and still going strong)
-My junior year I took part in a Mentee program with a big law firm that was offered through connections with my school. Plus, I was Co-President of the Glee Club in my school.
-2nd half of junior year I was the lead in the school play.
And overall, all throughout high school I’ve performed in choir, and bi-yearly showcases.
LETTER OF RECS:
I’ve only read two from my old teachers and they were great, yet one was much stronger than the other. Not too worried about them.
AWARDS: I’ve received Students Distinction Awards from my Chem class (10th grade) and my AP Teacher (11th grade). Plus, High Honor Roll/Honor Roll throughout my 4 years.
COMMONAPP ESSAY: I wrote about a time I experienced failure but learned a valuable lesson. I wrote about scoring my dream role in the play junior year yet being so caught up in the lights and attention, my grades were falling into an abyss, but I made a “comeback” I guess you can say.
SUPPLEMENTALS: I wrote about a personal topic (my family) suffering from certain things, and how those instances helped define what I truly wanted to focus on in medicine. And the What I value of Columbia, I wrote about it’s flexibility with financial aid and how they aim to make education accessible to all, which fit into my special circumstances. Being Latina, first get student, being a good example to my sibling, growing up in a community where most people don’t go to college: plus, it being a privilege to attend an ivy-league school with considerably great financial aid.
