Columbia HSPx2018

Hello Everyone!

I am a sophomore in high school and I have been accepted into the Columbia High School Summer Program (Session I) for ‘Entrepreneurship and Innovation: New Product Development’.
After reading innumerable articles and watching videos about the program, I have understood that like everything else, the Columbia High School Summer Program has its own pros and cons. I am an International student (India) and since middle school I have my own community service project, I have already done an internship and my co-curriculars are up to a good level. However, I have never visited The United States or visited a college before, yet, I am a US Citizen and will be applying to Colleges/Universities there in the future. Hence, I am looking forward to make new friends, create new memories, learn about different cultures but most importantly, get a feel of the ever busy city, New York and my dream college, Columbia University in the City of New York.
Also, if any of the previous students can share more information on what was done there on a daily basis, i.,e., how many trips were conducted, how liberal was the residential option, were you allowed to leave campus anytime you wanted, how much money is required to be carried by an individual, etc…

I would love to know if anyone else is attending the program and if we could get in touch before hand because I have never been on my own before and I am a tad bit scared to make new friends.

I would really appreciate all the help I could get as I am very nervous for the program.

Thank You

Hi, i’m currently a senior but over the summer of June 2017, I attended the Columbia University’s 3 week immersion summer course. My course is similar to yours but it was “Introduction to Business, Economics, and Finance”. Basically, the trips vary from class to class. I remember my class only had one trip to the Museum of American Finance. Outside of classes, there are many trips that are held by resident advisors to museums, plays, etc. The dorms were pretty nice, but everybody got assigned a dorm randomly. You are allowed to leave campus after your classes are over but have to be back at your dorm by 11 pm latest everyday, your resident advisor will make that clear. How much money? I’d say $50, NYC is an expensive place but be sure to save your money for other activities.

Don’t be nervous! I was nervous too but it was really enjoyable and I made some lifelong best friends to whom I still talk to. Hope this helps

Hey. I’m going to Columbia’s summer program this summer. I will be in the introduction to journalism and nonfiction as a commuter. will be going not my freshman year in high school.
