Columbia Interviews

Hey guys.

Until when does Columbia contact applicants for an interview with an alumnus?
I know Dartmouth is until end of February, but what about Columbia? If it helps, I'm from NYC, so location shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks.

I heard that it's until Feb. I'm from NYC as well (what HS do you go to?) and I haven't been contacted for a Columbia interview either.

Interviews have to be completed and reports filed by March 1.

If you guys are from the outer bouroughs, you're unlikely to get an interview. If you're from Manhattan, it may be 50/50.

I have my Columbia interview tomorrow and I live in a suburb of NYC

i have an interview and i live on long island.

except... my interviewer doesnt respond to my emails. what should i do?
like, he told me to tell him what days were good for me. so i did, and then he didnt respond for 10 days, so i emailed him again, and he said he was really busy but hell get back to me, its been like 11+ days since then... what shouldst i do?

He's probably really busy. Don't be a pain in the neck. He's got a month to interview you. He'll get back to you when he's good and ready.

mmkay

i only emailed him once to see what was up because he never responded, i dont think i annoyed him... i hope.

How important are interviews... mine didn't go as well as I would have liked, and I am really scared that it is going to hurt me.

A bad interview is most likely going to result in a rejection. Columbia needs any way to weed people out. That being said, your not feeling that great about it does not necessarily mean you had a bad interview. You don't really know what the interviewer thought of you.

do we contact the school for an interview? or do they do it?
i'd like to interview- i mean it can't hurt you- at least that's what i heard

They'll contact you if there is room.

It can hurt you. Why would it possibly not hurt you if you have a bad interview?

Well, i've spoken to an alumni who conducts interviews
he says that "it can only help"- it shows that you actually want to go, and so actually took the time to interview
i agree though- i mean, one contrary comment, or a even a funny look, can tick an interviewer off, they are human
still, i'd like to be contacted and given the option to interview

The alums you talked to are either misinformed (unlikely) or lying (more likely). Who wants to tell someone that an interview can hurt you if you have a crappy one?
