So, I know I need two recs for Columbia. And I know they want them to "come from someone who has instructed the applicant in an academic discipline, namely Foreign Languages, Language Arts, Math, Science, or Social Science." So I am getting my APUSH teacher for one and I am all set.

But, for my second one I need a math or science teacher rec for engineering. I really want a teacher who has taught me in specific Engineering Classes to write me a rec, but his class titles are under electives and not math or science. The engineering classes he teaches are legit and you can get college credit for them, and he is also the teacher that knows me the best. I emailed Columbia and they said "We recommend that engineering students provide a math/science teacher recommendation, but it is not required." Yet on their website it says it MUST be a math or science teacher. So I was just wondering if you think I should use my Engineering Teacher(and does he qualify as being under an academic discipline).
