Columbia School of General Studies vs NYU Stern

Hey guys,

I was accepted to Stern and GS as a transfer student from a community College.

I need to decide on NYU stern by next week, and i still cannot make up my mind.
I will be majoring in Economics at GS: Econ and Finance at Stern.
Stern gave me about 12k in grants and scholarship, and about 7k in loans.
GS gave me about 11k in grants and scholarship, and about 7k in loans as well

My ultimate goal is to break into ibanking and consulting and go on to grad school for MBA.

I wonder if GS students get same kind of opportunities as CC and FU students when it comes to job and internship.
I also wonder how grad school will look at GS.
What else is different as a GS student compared to CC and FU

If any of you are willing to shed some light in this, i would appreciate it.

GS students tend to have it worse off b/c they dont' live on campus. they tend to be older than undergraduate age and generally participate less in extracurriculars.

For student life concerns, i'd choose Stern. talk to students in GS and at Stern and then decide. I'm a CC student myself, so those impressions were just from what i've seen from GS students overall.

how about for academic and job placement concerns?

Columbia name is better than NYU even Stern. I wd take Columbia.

what will the name do for me

if i can't find a job after gradutating?

Example what if i lose all the jobs to CC and FU students?

How are you going to find a job? through the placement office? where do you want to work?

ibanking, and consulting.

i guess i will find job through campus recruiting

I don't know too much about campus recruiting but my dad always found jobs directly with employers. (he is a GS graduate) in i banking. He just talked to them directly. I don't know what is the best method. I think your best bet is to get a list of potential employers recruiting at GS and also talk to employers. Do they recruit outside campus programs? I would say yes for GS because of the age of students. If you go througfh the campus pool, you might have more competition and less choices of employers. My dad talked to a lot of different firms before picking one.

which company does he work at now?

He works for a french bank in derivatives in NY. If you want advice give me your IM.

fang5656 ...............

To my understanding, mostly CC students (and a few from SEAS) end up with the banking and consulting jobs. If it were Columbia CC vs Stern, I would choose Columbia; but for Columbia GS vs Stern, I'd choose Stern.

Honestly Stern. CC or Stern? CC for sure. But not GS.

Well, if you want to go into ibanking directly after graduating, Stern is one of the best places you can go to; on-campus recruiting there is crazy.. Go for Stern

Columbia beats NYU internationally.

i think i can get into Ibanking after GS columbia too.

I hear there is no discrimination or segregation of the students in terms of career services. All studetns use the same resources.

Columbia then!
