I'll be transferring to either of these schools next year. It's a little late for me to apply to Stern. I was originally a philosophy major so I'm much too behind to be a competitive candidate for Stern unfortunately.

However, which school is better recognized in the business world? Obviously its Stern > CAS and Stern > Columbia but what about CAS vs Columbia for economics? I'll be a philosophy and econ double major but I don't think that's relevant much.

I plan on getting my MBA but that's after 2/3 years. And I know for an MBA its Columbia > NYU (or so I was told).

However can someone help me with this dilemma? As for the the GS ignore that. Columbia GS and Columbia itself there's virtually no.difference and no one will ever ask. Help please?

My understanding (perhaps it is incorrect) is that students at Columbia GS do not have access to Columbia College’s recruiting and that many alumni do not consider them “real” Columbia students.
Even if this is not true, there’s still a pretty big difference between GS and CC. Unless you’re a military veteran, I’d probably choose NYU.

Also, it sounds like you have yet to be accepted to either. It seems silly to try and choose beforehand, if you haven’t heard back yet.

It is a bit foolish, I’ll admit, but those are my only two options. I’m not you know cocky or anything by any means but I’m somewhat confident I’ll get accepted to at least one or the other. Either way I just wanted to know which one is ‘better’.

As far as GS goes, you might be right about the recruiting but after speaking to alumni and doing a bit of research I’ve found that’s it’s nearly inconsequential at the end of the day. You’re probably right about the recruitment though, thank you. I’ll have to look more into that.

Disregarding the GS stigma and I’m sure its drawbacks in comparison to CC, if the choice was between CC economics and NYU CAS, which would be the wise choice?

You can disregard pretty much everything angryelf said – GS students get the exact same on-campus recruiting opportunities as CC and SEAS students (Barnard students are excluded) and take the same classes and get the same degrees as all other Columbia undergraduates. I don’t know how this silly rumor was spread on the internet, but it’s completely false.

At Columbia (CC, SEAS, GS) and even Barnard, NYU (excluding Stern) is seen as a joke and a safety school. Many, if not most, people at GS were accepted to UC Berkeley, UCLA, Cornell (CALS/ILR), and NYU.

Although I’ve heard of Barnard students not getting treated like real Columbia students, I’ve never heard of it being applied to GS students (I mean, it’s an official undergraduate liberal arts college of Columbia).

Hope that helped.
