Hey Guys,

I had a couple questions for the Columbia SHP admissions tests.

1 - Are we allowed to use calculators for the test?
2 - I heard there were AMC type problems, so like AMC 10 or AMC 12?
3 - For the Science Sections, are they like basic chem., physics and bio or is it like AP chem, physics, bio.
4. - Does the test vary based on age? I will be taking the test in 10th grade, so is there some curve? Or a different test based on grade?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance!!!

No.

The “challenge” math section has problems with similar difficulty to the first few problems of the AMC (around the 5th question of the AMC).

Basic chem, physics, and Bio. REGENTS level.

No. There isn’t a different curve but the cutoffs are lowest for 9th graders and then higher each grade up.

ah thanks a lot cortana431!! And for taking the exam, do you have to go to Columbia University to take it?

thanks again, and do you know if the high school transcript and the test are weighed equally? Or is the test weighed more or vice versa.

The test is by far the most important factor. The transcript and other aPplcation aspects are used if there are ties.

Hey curryeater did you get in? I got in, so I have a question about transportation. I live in Duchess County, and since that’s like 1 1/2 hours away, idk if I should take the train or drive. Can you tell me what you’re doing?
