<p>Hey everyone. We're going to have to take placement exams for physics and chemistry for Columbia SEAS. Does anyone know if we HAVE (as in OBLIGATED/REQUIRED) to take the more advanced courses if we do well on the exam?</p>
<p>You don’t have to place into the higher level courses if you do well, it only gives you the option. Also, there is no obligation and really no incentive to place into the higher level courses. College is not like high school, employers and graduate schools have no idea what the differences between Physics C1200, C1400, and C1600 are.</p>

<p>Be aware that if you’re looking for AP credit, you will have to take the higher level class. For example, to get credit for a 4 or 5 on AP Chem, you’ll need to take Chem 1604 instead of 1401.
