Columbia Supplement - listing books, films, etc.

For the Columbia supplement, what format is everyone using for the "list" questions? Is everyone including authors for the books and release years for films? And how many titles are people generally putting in each list?

Thanks in advance :)

I am asking the same question too! This is very confusing because they ask for a “book list”.

I will do it like this:
Book1 (year) — author 1
Book2 (year) — author 2
…

yo sup guys. So for the books I just did
Book1 by Author, Book2 by Author, etc

but for movies, do you think it’s necessary to list the director?? How much information are we supposed to give for these things?

I think I’m probably going to go with “Title by Author, Title by Authour” too. As for films, I’m going to go with “Title (Release Year)”, I think.

How many are you putting in each list, though? I study Film Studies at school so its more than likely I’m going to get carried away listing films!

I put 12 things under the film/exhibition/performance category. I have 9 publications, 6 required books and 5 non required books, hbu?. I really wish they didn’t limit you to things in only the past year, especially in the book section. Fortunately the Columbia supplement looks pretty easy compared to the others (UChicago’s essay options are insane! :frowning: ).

I’d tell you exactly what I put in each but my laptop crashed before I got the chance to save them :frowning: I had about 5 in required books and around 10+ in non-required, I think. Currently I have 19 possible films to cut down to a more reasonable number, and have no idea what to put for the publications and cultural events :/

I don’t think the additional mini-essays are hard, but they aren’t half a pain.

I only have two required readings, and only enjoyed one of them (the other was The Crucible). Is it not a good idea to just put one book down?

I only have three or four required readings and didn’t really enjoy one of them that much, but I’m still going to include it seeing as though I didn’t absolutely hate it.

I just want to ask do these lists matter much? I mean do they greatly affect your chances though?

I wouldn’t say they “greatly” affect your chances so much as help flesh out the image of who you are and show how well-rounded/ worldly you are.

I just wrote “A” by X, “B” by Y, etc. for books, and listed the remainder… I don’t believe I put dates or anything alongside them.
