Does anyone know of a thread for Columbia fall 2010? If not, lets make this the one!

Didn’t see one so I guess this works haha.

OH did anyone get to part 2 (essays) of the app yet? I still haven’t submitted part 1 but I was wondering what the essay questions were…

Just started on the application. Hope everyone in here gets in though.

I’m applying to the School of General Studies because I had a five year break between high school and college. I’ve submitted Part I, but am still working on the essay for Part II. Good luck everyone!

I haven’t gotten the essays either. Someone posted the old ones from last year on the old Columbia thread I think. The basically stated one descirbe yourself etc. two a short essay on why columbia and I forget the third

anywhere- can you post the essay prompts for this yr’s columbia transfer?

I did submit the first part and here is what i got from the second part columbia fall 2010 transfer app

(a)Short Answer Essay Question
How and why is your present school not meeting your needs? Please limit yourself to 250 words (1 page).

(b)Personal Essay
Write an essay that conveys to the reader a sense of who you are. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to, experiences that have shaped your life, the circumstances of your upbringing, your most meaningful intellectual achievement, the way you see the world—the people in it, events great and small, everyday life—or any personal theme that appeals to your imagination. Please remember that we are concerned not only with the substance of your prose but with your writing style as well. We prefer that you limit yourself to 250–500 words (1–2 pages).

damn this is gonna be loads of fun… haha

Question about professor recs -

If we are applying to multiple schools, do we have have to make the professors fill out each school’s individual recommendation sheet, or could we send the standard common app rec sheet to all of the schools?

I remember in high school, my college guidance people just sent the standard sheet to all of the schools, even places like Columbia where they have the weird teacher rec process.

Thanks SSK. So there isn’t a question like “Why Columbia?”

Seaboard, I’m pretty sure for most schools professors have the option of just attaching a standard letter to each school’s respective forms.

i’m trying to decide between applying to seas or to the college. i want to apply to the college, but i will have completed courses in 3 hard sciences and started some upper division math classes, which i think will look good for seas…i’m torn

thanks, coco!

Can anyone confirm whether there is an essay question “Why Columbia?” apart from the “how and why is your current school not meeting your needs?” prompt?

woo about time someone started this thread!

so at least this many people are applying to columbia…=/

steeze, over 2000 people apply for transfer into columbia every year. i’m actually surprised there arent more people on this thread.

@coco40
Those are the only 2 essays in the app no “why columbia”

^^thats really odd. Did they ever have “why columbia” for transfer?

Hey guys count one more in to the pool of applicants. Should we start the “here are my credentials, what are my chances” posts…?

^ Yeah we might as well start it up.

Steeze- There use to be a why columbia essay, but no longer. I think you should still implement that into your essay when talking about how your current school does not fit you.
