Hi. I am new to this forum and need some help tranferring. I am currently at a CC in California and am thinking about transferring to CAL, UCLA or Columbia (or at least I would like to). The only problem is that I will only have appx 30 college credits by the end of the spring semester '07 (with AP it will be about 42-46 depending on college). This excludes me from applying to CAL (and it think UCLA) until next year for fall '08. I would be more than happy to go to Columbia but I would like to know what my chances are (thanks in advance for any input):

H.S GPA 3.3 (unweighted)
3.4 (weighted)

7 AP courses

SAT I 1380 (670 R, 710 M)
II Math 2c 700
Physics 710
Writing 650

College GPA
(@Illinois Institute of Tech) 3.6 (3.7 if only the xferrable courses to Columbia
(@Berkeley CC) 4.0

Awards:CollegeBoard AP Scholar ; Deans List, IIT ; Heald and Campus Scholarship, IIT

Intended Major: Physics / Mathematics
Both my H.S and College grades in Science and Math are very strong (math/sci H.S GPA is appx. 4.1 and 3.8 for college) but my H.S english grades suck [[ I got passing d's in AP English Lit during my Sr. year!!]], though my college english is also quite strong.

Since I began H.S I have been working to support myself and am currently a Physics Teaching Assistant at the local H.S.

I like to do non-competitive boxing and tennis, and I have been doing yoga for the past two years. as for EC's, I helped to start up a philosophy club at IIT and tutored AP Calc in H.S. I was also a computer technician for my H.S.

One of the questions on the xfer application for Columbia asks to explain why my present school in not meeting my needs; I have decided to explain that the CC I am enrolled in is not rigorous/challenging enough to satisfy my academic appetite (very typical, I know), and that I it is because of financial reasons (I have not had any financial support) that I am at a CC, but that I now have the academic, work and life experience to succeed inside and outside of Columbia U. I am open to any suggestions.

If anyone has any comments or has an idea of my chances for fall '07 please let me know. Thanks very much!!

Also, I was wondering If I should retake the SAT's. Will it make a big difference if I did? Also, If I for some reason do worse in one section, will I still be able to combine my best section scores even if one might be from the new SAT and the others from the old SAT? When should I take them if I want to apply for fall '07 xfer admission (deadline march 15)?
