****Columbia University Class of 2021 Regular Decision Thread****

@samc24 i submitted the IDOC stuff about a month ago?? im confused bc all of my other schools have received it except columbia it seems. the one im missing is the “Parent Foreign Tax Return”

@samc24 Does your IDOC portal says that the documents were processed and made available? If so, maybe call the financial aid office just to be sure.

@kbn2015 I was in the same situation, got it resolved through an email, and nothing is pending now. Send em an email explaining whatever you need to

I recently received this email from Columbia:
Dear ,

Greetings from Columbia University! The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is considering your admissions application, and we have identified you as a potential candidate for the New York State Arthur O. Eve Higher Educational Opportunity Program (HEOP). Students being considered for admission through HEOP must meet certain academic and financial criteria in order to be deemed eligible. If admitted through this highly selective program, not only do students join a vibrant community of scholars, but they also benefit from additional academic, personal and financial support.

This need-based program provides enhanced academic and financial assistance for a select group of Columbia College and Columbia Engineering students. HEOP students must also meet financial guidelines established by New York State. Support services offered by the staff of our Academic Success Programs, where HEOP and other programs are housed, include:

Financial Aid: Though most HEOP students graduate in four years, they are eligible for up to five years of full need-based financial aid for tuition, room, board and books. Our need-based aid is in the form of grants and student work, not loans.

Summer Bridge Program: HEOP students participate in a required five-week summer residential academic program that provides preparation for college-level courses in the areas of critical reading and analysis, formal writing, laboratory science and mathematics. Students also engage in team-building exercises and excursions in New York City to foster personal development and a sense of community.

Advising and Tutoring: Columbia’s Center for Student Advising assigns all students individual advisers who work with them closely throughout their time at Columbia to set and reach their academic goals. Students also have access to staff across the university, including the Office of Global Programs, the Center for Career Education and faculty advisers in academic departments. Additionally, HEOP students are matched with peer mentors, who provide both individualized and group tutoring services and counseling on topics such as career exploration, financial independence and the transition to college life.

As part of consideration for HEOP, you will be contacted to set up an interview with a current student and will also be asked to submit additional financial aid information. These messages will come to the email address you listed on your application, so it is important that you monitor that email address closely. Please note that these interviews are program-specific and different from interviews conducted by Columbia alumni. You can expect to hear from us soon.

If you have any questions, please email .

Best,

Maria Asayag
Senior Assistant Director of Admissions

Does anyone know what this implies? Is this a good thing that I was considered for HEOP even though I didn’t apply for it?

@gunkers From what the email said, it sounds like a fantastic opportunity. I imagine HEOP isn’t something people apply for, but instead is just a program that qualified students are automatically entered into consideration for. Good luck with your application!

@gunkers
It doesnt mean anything.

My counsellor still has not submitted my Mid Year report, but the Columbia website states that it should be sent by the 1st of February. Is this a big deal? Are they likely to be lenient? I did tell my counsellor she needed to send it by the end of January but she still did not. I am an international applicant; none of the teachers at my school know about applying to US universities so it’s up to me to know EVERYTHING.

I’ve emailed her again asking her to send it.

@gunkers
I am also applying to Columbia through HEOP. If it’s not to much to ask, what were you stats (GPA, SAT). I didn’t receive any HEOP email from Columbia so I just wanted to see what other applicants were like.

@ammielove I wouldn’t worry too much. Perhaps get in touch with the admissions office and let them know the situation (without throwing your counselor under the bus).

@ammielove I think it’ll be fine. My school probably won’t send them for another week or so, since our semester just ended–they set a deadline of Feb 1st to make sure that those whose semesters have ended send their grades on time and so that they can go through the review process more quickly.

@sozzle @scarletwitchx thanks! My counsellor has submitted it now, so I think I’m okay right?

Anyone know how to log into the applicant portal? Most schools send a code to log in and check the status of you application. I never got an email from Columbia

@bfbaseball Check your email junk folder. You should have received an email after submitting the app. If you can’t find it I would contact the admissions office.

@bfbaseball I’ll tell you a trick.
Go to the Login Page, then in the URL, replace “login” by “register”. It would load a registration form. Use the same email address as on your application. You would then receive an email with the PIN. Follow the directions and you would gain access to your account. If in case the portal says you’re already registered, try resetting the password.

Note: This trick will work for every college that uses Technolutions for College Applications.

It shows on the financial aid portal that they haven’t received my fafsa. I read on previous threads that they only download it if you’re admitted. Is that true? Is anybody else’s fafsa not showing up as packaging yet?

@Ceciliaagnes When did you submit the FAFSA? It can take a while for them to process it.

Has anyone received a likely letter?

Anyone from India got an Interview? Anyone? If you did, kindly also name the city you belong to.

@intellectboy my friend got a Skype interview a while ago. We’re in Mumbai, but I haven’t received one yet.
