lol im currently preparing myself for decisions in the hardest way possible: reading rejection letters
@1984ad lol I’m doing the same thing to emotionally prepare myself
(general question) in the event that you get deferred/rejected, are there any other ivy schools that you hope to get into as your number 2 or 3? which others are you applying to?
@1984ad I prefer to read this haha

@bagelboy I’ll apply to Barnard after if I don’t get accepted to Columbia College.
I know it’s really bad have this mindset when it’s such a selective college and ranked 5th in the nation, but my heart is absolutely set on CU. It’s all I could think about for the past three years and the fact that admission decisions are 2 weeks away are killing me. But, I’ll have Barnard to happily apply to after so I think I’ll be okayish
So I have recently been reminiscing on my interview with my regional rep (1 and a half hours away) and I remember at the end she was telling me all about her son getting admitted to CU, is that a good sign. I know that an interview does not really reflect in the admissions evaluation process, but I can dream, right? Did any one else have their interview say something like that to them?
yeah i am not sure. it just kind of stings because my stats were pretty on par/slightly better than those who got matched (im really happy for them!!) and… ugh.
@bagelboy other ivy schools that im applying to? im sending out apps to yale/cornell, but im definitely not as keen on attending them as i am with columbia lol. i like uchicago too, but i doubt i can get in (same goes with the others). my matches are NYU/UR, and i like them as well, and i have a few safeties. its hard to rank them in order of importance to me because, just like @AcademiaSavvy , my heart is really set on columbia and has been ever since i was in middle school lol
@TomTanJoseR2022 i wouldnt read into that, most interviews end with a similar sentiment. these people are almost always rooting for you to get in, and they tend to make nice statements at the end of the interview to confirm that. i remember my interviewer also said some stuff about how i’d be a great fit for the school and some similar ideas, and it was kind but i never read into it. interviews have very very little sway since theyre so informal and almost all of them are positive experiences
@macktheknife the process is holistic though, so they possibly could’ve had stronger essays/recs/ECs/etc or maybe something in their app caught an AO’s eye…it’s impossible to tell at this point unfortunately
I’m kind of bummed out that CU is the only New York school I’m applying to because I just wouldn’t be able to afford NYU or any of the other ones in the city. I’ve had CU set in my heart since freshman year and it’ll be sad that I might not get the chance to live out some of the most important years of my life in the amazing place that is NYC. Rant aside, I’m also applying to Brown, Princeton, UPenn, Oberlin, UChicago, UMich, Pomona, USC, Amherst, and a few others. I was originally intending to ED Brown (different story why), but the night before I made it official with my guidance counselor, I had a fever dream that I needed to follow my gut and apply ED Columbia– the dream ended with the sentiment that I needed to make sure I did everything I could to make it to NYC for undergrad, and I did. So, if Columbia doesn’t work out (I am hoping to whatever higher power that may or may not exist that it does work out), I definitely have Brown as my second and UChicago or Oberlin as my third.
@bagelboy im in the same boat when it comes to not being able to afford NYU. i’d love to be in NYC, but NYU is honestly terrible in aid for most students. im still applying in hopes that i luck out, but i doubt i could actually afford to go
and yeah i get where you’re coming from. i just wish these days would pass quicker! i think im a fairly competitive applicant, but im filled with immense self doubt on most days where i think rejection is honestly inevitable. hopefully i can take my mind off of it a little bit tomorrow – im going to see lady bird!!
If results are consistent from last year (and the previous year), then Columbia will probably accept about 20-30 QB applicants
@1984ad ahhhhh!!! always exciting to hear about people going to see lady bird, I’m getting my guidance counselor and a few of my other favorite teachers that haven’t seen it yet to go see it. I think you’re really gonna like it. I’m taking my mind off of the decision by catching up on Broad City and watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch for the first time (lol).
okay, thank you @katewithak ! I hope it won’t have a bad influence on my application
Hello everyone!
Jusy joining this discussion. Just like everyone else, so anxious. I know I’m going to get rejected like most of the people but still…
By the way, Any idea about how many international applicants are accepted in ED?
