Columbia ED Class of 2019

Hey guys! I know this is a bit premature, but are there any highschool juniors anticipating applying for early decision to Columbia? Also, if any veterans of the application process have advice, it would be much appreciated!

Yes, I’m planning on applying ED to Columbia in November. I’m an international student in the UK who needs financial aid, and unfortunately for us the admissions process considers need (need-aware), so I’m not exactly expecting much lol.

Hi, I’m planning on applying early next year! I would also love any advice if veterans have any…

I’ll be applying early too and be expecting a denial letter but nothing to lose I guess. Any advice much appreciated. If denied I’m applying regular decision too, someone I know got denied to Harvard ED then accepted RD.

You cannot reapply if rejected. If you get waitlisted then there is the chance you get accepted off the waitlist but all hopes are dead if you get rejected, which will hopefully not happen. Good Luck

I’m probably applying ED! Good luck to everyone else, I hope for the best.

Hey guys!!! I’m definitely applying ED to Columbia next year. I know it’s early, but we should make a Facebook group over the summer

Yay, it’s nice to see other people applying! I’m so excited/nervous  and yeah @funnymetaphor‌ good call!

I’m torn between ED Columbia and SCEA Princeton. I’m absolutely in love with both schools! I’m definitely expecting a deferred/rejection letter with my low GPA but who knows. I’m hoping my super high test scores will stand out. Good luck to all!

I’m debating between applying ED to Columbia, Yale or Amherst, but at the moment I’m leaning towards Columbia.

is it fine if I finish with a B+ in AP euro this year? all my other grades in high school so far have been in the A range and all my other grades this year will hopefully be in the A range, but I’m 99% sure i’ll finish with a B+ in euro. do you think that will seriously affect my chances?

Hey! I’m planning on applying to Columbia early, but I’m also looking at Johns Hopkins!

Yes, it’s fine to apply with a B. There’s no way every student at Columbia had straight As in high school.

Don’t sweat a B+.

You can apply and still get in with a C. One or two Cs or Bs in high school won’t kill you (assuming they’re in advanced classes).

But to answer the thread, I won’t be applying ED to Columbia but best of luck to everyone who does!

Xfirex, I have never heard of getting admitted to an Ivy over the past couple years with a C. Several years ago, I knew a girl who got a. C was admitted to USC but not admitted to an Ivy.

Over 10 students from my HS matriculated at Columbia last September. A couple of them did have a C, so it can happen.

For the record, I will apply to Columbia next year, but not ED.

Living61, xfirex is right. It is possible to get in with a C. Of course, the closer to senior year the C is, the more it will bring you down. A C in freshman or sophomore year will not stop you from an ivy.

i don’t have any C’s. I’ll finish with a B+ in ap euro this year and possibly a B+ in chem. all my other grades in high school have been in the A range, so hopefully that won’t bring me down too much. also, for anyone applying ED, or anyone else for that matter, does applying ED really increase your chances of admission?

It’s hard to say that with certainty. Part of the higher acceptance rate is that kids who apply ED are usually stronger than kids who apply RD because they are 100% set on that school, compared to some kids who will just kind of throw a “why not” application at a school in RD.

Other than that, a lot of top schools are filling more and more of their classes through ED, some hitting like 40-50% of the class being admitted through ED.
