Columbia University GS Vs. George Washington University

So, I have a dilemma. I was just accepted to Columbia University School of General Studies. I've also been accepted to American University in DC and I am fairly certain that I will be accepted to George Washington University, also in DC. I am a Political Science Major planning to declare a concentration in Human Rights. I love the idea of being in DC and the internship possibilities that would be opened up to me there but I also love the idea of going to Columbia (although I'm not entirely in love with the idea of NYC). Ahhh! I need help!!!

My question: Is it better to go to DC to major in Political Science or should I jump at the chance to attend an Ivy League college? Prestige is not what is important to me, it is the educational opportunities I will be afforded. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

My Stats:

Transfer student from a Community College

GPA: 4.0 (unweighted)

Extra curricular activities:
President of Amnesty International (1.5 years)
Phi Theta Kappa
Gay Straight Alliance
Peace & Justice Initiative

If Political Science was your only focus then I would say DC. However, since you have a focus in the Human Rights along with your involvement in Amnesty, I would consider Columbia because of the possibility for involvement with the UN since NY is their Head Quarters. Of course, the UN may not be as involved with the same human rights areas you find interesting. Just a thought.

Either way, congrats on your success at those highly competitive schools!

Thanks Cababika. I know the UN is in NY but I’m more interested in domestic public policy and human rights as it relates to the U.S. rather than an International Relations major. With that said, is Columbia or George Washington going to be better?

What are some of the pros and cons of Columbia and George Washington???
