***COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY R.D. APPLICANTS***

i had a guy who graduated in '56 lol

Hi guys, I have a question about the interview~~
Has anyone been asked specifically about a book/ books you’ve listed on your common app??? I’m just wondering if that information is given to the interviewer or not, so I can be prepared, if we were to discuss books/movies and things I’ve listed.

@mmchocolate The interview doesn’t know anything about you beyond your contact information. They don’t know what’s on your Common App at all. But in my Columbia interview, the interviewer asked me what book I had read in the past year that I really like. Be prepared for a question like this one.

Good to know~ :smiley: Thank you very much! @ilovethecity

So all decisions from the IVY league come out on March 27th? Could someone please confirm? Thanks

@ShaneBlakeEy‌ I think it’s March 31st this year.

@drblack thank you!

Could anyone confirm this?

@mmchocolate‌ I had my interview yesterday and my interviewer had a copy of my common app in front of him. He rarely referenced it but the fact that it was there definitely meant someting. be sure you know your application from cover to cover.

@tastywaffle‌ My interview was today and it was the complete opposite. She told me all she knew was my high school, name, and possible intended majors. I actually detailed the story of what I wrote in my common app essay and her reaction told me she had definitely not read it. Thinking of your experience, there doesn’t seem to be a hard and fast rule of what they do or do not know about the applicant.

My interviewer knew what majors I applied for and asked about them.

My interviewer didn’t really no anything about my application other than my name, contact info, and intended majors.

Also, did anyone else get a financial aid email from Columbia?

@triantafilla‌ Yeah, I got the financial aid email. I can also now see my application status :slight_smile:

Just had a phone interview - I’m actually totally exhausted from it haha. The guy (who was impressively old, by the way) was so intellectual. He was asking me about American history and literature in between amusing anecdotes about subsaharan Africa. It was a difficult interview, though. My others have been much simpler.

Hi guys, I have not received any information regarding interviews while some of my classmates who also applied to Columbia have already completed theirs. Should I be worried? When is the latest they conduct interviews?

@tastywaffle: Was your interview with an actual Columbia admissions employee or an alumnus volunteer? If the latter, that I find the fact that he had your Common App in hand to be terrifyingly invasive and perilously veering off the edge of FERPA statutes (http://www2.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html). Could you have been mistaken about what he had? The info contained in anyone’s Common App (academic record, parent’s profession & education, your personal statements, other intimate info) is extremely private and personal and no volunteer should have access to it, IMHO.

Can you update us?

My son had an interview last week. The interviewer said It would be helpful to bring his resume but not necessary. My son didn’t bring it:( The interviewer also asked the question he said he’s not supposed to ask which is what other colleges he applied to and how he compared them to Columbia. It turned out to be his best interview.

Is it too late to be contacted for an interview? Oh how I would love one lol.

Straight off the Columbia website: Candidates who are not offered an interview are not at any disadvantage in the admissions process. Because the actual assignment of interviews is not conducted by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, we respectfully ask that you do not call or write to inquire about receiving an interview. You will be contacted directly if an interview is available in the same area as your high school.

Anybody else going to that financial aid webinar?

So if I got deferred, where would I go to check my decision when it comes out? They never sent me any email and on the apply page for Columbia it only has my ED application.
