Columbia University Science Honors Program

For those who are applying or are in it?

pretty much... tell me everything about!! XD

how r the admission tests... any tips?

how r the interviews?

and really... how does this application process work out...

and is it REALLY REALLY REALLY HARD to get into?

I'm in it.

The admissions test is neither hard nor easy. If you have a strong background in the sciences and math, you'll do well. I have no idea what the relative weights are for the test, essay, and teacher rec. As far as I know, there is no interview. Honestly, I don't know how hard it is to get in beyond the anecdotal evidence of me and my friends who applied/got in/didn't.

Once you're in, though, it's nice because there are no tests and no homework - you get to just go once a week to learn about something that (hopefully) you're genuinely interested in.

I'm in it as well. The test is three sections, one easy math, one easy science, and one very difficult math section without calculators. It's probably optimal to take the test as a junior, and last two two of my friends (a soph + freshman) didn't get in. As far as I know, SHP is pretty selective, but if you're strong in math and science, you should get in.

as far as the program itself, i love it!! I'm taking Intro to Psych and it's definitely one of the most interesting and entertaining classes I've ever taken. It may seem annoying to give up your Saturday mornings to take classes, but it's definitely worth it, and I guarantee you'll make some great friends. Best of luck!
