Hello! It's been a while since I've been on CC forums and I just completed 1.5 semesters at Rutgers University.
I plan on applying sophomore year, (for junior year standing).

I currently have ~3.9/4.0 GPA, involved in few club (but passionately active in them) like formula one and engineers without borders, and trying to get research for the upcoming fall semester. I was wondering what more should I do to increase my chances. I also am thinking of retaking my standardized exams because my scores are decent (2060 SAT I, 740 Math 2c, 700 Physics). I know that standardized exams aren't really counted much for transferring into junior year, but I just want to show admissions that I am truly committed.

Thank you

I am also planning on transferring as an engineering major

Before you spend any time, effort, or money on re-taking those exams, verify that the numbers will be used in the application process. Most places do not look at scores taken after college enrollment. Your effort would be better spent on crafting good application essays.

I just checked and they require that you send SAT/ACT scores regardless of sophomore year or junior year transfer

Yes Columbia does require standardized testing result. I initially had 2200 out of high school, and as I was applying to Columbia (not engineering, A&S), I asked Columbia if raising the score would enhance my chance of getting in. They did, in fact, gave me a semi-positive answer, so I went on to take it anyway (there were many other schools who would like to see the increase in score as well). After all, it turned out well with an increase of close to 100 points, and we will see what will happen to my admissions results. So yes, it will help.

Oh, I see did you apply to Columbia for this upcoming fall semester? Are you going in for sophomore year or junior year?

Yes, for the fall of 2014 as a junior.

Are you applying to CC or SEAS? And what are your reasons for transferring out of your current college and why specifically Columbia. (Sorry if it sounds like I’m interrogating you. I just want to know if my reasons are similar to yours)

CC. Math and Econ double majors to be exact. I don’t mind it at all. My reason: I have realized that I want to devote my life to the field of development economics, and the current college I am attending does not have any course offerings or research programs related to the area. Furthermore, I have started taking graduate classes here starting this year (sophomore year) and I have yet to meet a challenge in academics. Columbia’s econ is famous for its close tie with the UN and development economics programs like UN Millennium Village Project. I actually have worked indirectly for another organization that was involved with the project, so I can relate to it. I mentioned all these in my common app essays as well.

That’s really cool! Well I wish you luck! Tell me how it goes! Hopefully I’ll possibly be able to see you in two years! :)
