Hey, does anyone know which of these schools has the better cultural anthropology program? I'd like to focus on Africa if one of the schools is better in that specific area too. Thanks for the help

Penn - a decent Anthropology Museum as well. Your Africa question is better addressed by a grad student or faculty member.

Penn has a much stronger anthropology dept. per the NRC rankings. Penn also has a National Resource Center in African languages & area studies. Columbia has its own African Studies Institute and could certainly provide a solid background in the area in terms of faculty and course offerings. (NYC also offers additional resources for African studies.) Penn, however, seems to have more extensive resources in the area.
