Columbia

This has recently become my dream school. Does anyone know of any summer programs that they offer for freshmen in high school? Help would be appreciated. Thanks =]

Do your research–they offer a summer program with classes in various subject areas.

But keep in mind that doing a program at a particular college has no bearing on whether or not you’ll be accepted there. None. It can help to round out your application, but the summer programs that are the most impressive are usually free. Columbia, while by no means a bad program (you can find several diatrobes extolling the virtues–and lack thereof–of the program if you search CC), has admission based more on ability to pay than qualifications, so it’s not particularly impressive on an application.

If money’s tight, I’d recommend you save a few thousand bucks and get an internship or a job this summer.

Well, I think it would help her get a feel of the campus, environment, weather, and overall atmosphere.

It’s freshman summer, I would recommend applying to anything that seems interesting and get an internship/job the next year.

^Fair point. But that benefit should be weighed against the cost, especially if the OP comes from a family where money is tight.
