Hello Everyone.

I am from South Korea. I applied transfer to Columbia GS as an international few days ago.

My stats are:
School : State University Ranked around 60 in US NEWS with 3.46 GPA.
Languages : Korean, English - Fluent
Filipino - Conversational
Activity and Volunteer : I've got them in spades - never spent my life meaninglessly.
Gap Year: 1 year right after High School in the Philippines and worked for newly arrived Korean immigrants.
Essay: Well expressed.
TOEFL : 98 - This part is the part that I am worrying.
Also, I submitted my documents a week before deadline and my toelf and high school reports is not on their way to get to the GS. Although I sent them a week before deadline, which is Oct 1, I have no idea why they are not getting there yet.

Thus, given the fact that there is a slight delay in submitting minor documents, and with the educational background, how do you guys think about my chances being accepted?

What year of college are you in?

Sophomore. I am applying for Junior Transfer.

Can you pay full freight?
If so, your odds are pretty good (as long as you match their specific requirements.)

Yea, I think so. What I am specifically worried is that I don’t have a high GPA, and 2 lacking points in TOEFL (their requirement score is 100 or above). Besides, I submitted minor documents a little late due to the institution’s laziness.

I asked the admission via email that 2 lacking point in TOEFL would seriously matter, but he said that they accepted students who are slightly lower than 100. But I am still worried.
Do you think that would it be seriously mattered?

By the way, what do you mean “match their specific requirements”?

If you’ve received a B or higher in your English Composition, Freshman Seminar, or Writing Seminar class(es), the TOEFL will easily be overlooked.

I think your gap year would count as a break of one year or more but I can’t be sure. Also, GS is where many transfers apply.

Thanks. I certainly have a gap year, that’s why I am applying transfer to GS.
Wish me a luck!

You appear to be a strong candidate. GS’s admissions rubric is a bit nebulous and hard to pin down. Your gpa is strong, but to be really competitive it could be a bit higher. What do your grade trends look like? If you have performed really well as of late, then your chances will be much better. (GS really looks at, and values upward grade trends). It’s all about context, really. GS has certain types of students that they are looking for, and it’s hard to say if you fit that mold without looking at your personal statement - which you should treat as the most important part of your application. If you can craft a good personal statement, your chances of gaining admittance will be very high.
