Hi, I got accepted EA as an Economics major in CSSH and am really interested in the combined Econ and Business Administration major. Since those majors on their own are in two different schools (CSSH/DMSB), what school would I technically be in? The combined major seems to be offered through both schools, so on my diploma would it say both schools or just the school I started in?
Also, if I can only be in one school, how hard would it be for me to transfer from CSSH to DMSB?
It really doesn’t matter what your diploma says, the subject you studied is all that matters. As a combined major, you’ll also have access to any co-ops looking for either subject, so you won’t be affected there either. That’s what happens for the CS/Business people I know.
Also another note on co-op eligibility: even if you’re not the major that the co-op is aimed for, it’s still possible apply for and do those co-ops, if you have the relevant skills/courses. I was a behavioral neuroscience major, but my senior year I applied for co-ops in engineering and computer science (where I had a minor). It was a more involved process (I had to go meet with the co-op advisors in those departments to get cleared to apply), but it was do-able.
Also, even if you don’t choose to do a combined major, Northeastern’s course selection is really open. For almost all classes, you don’t have to be a certain major or in a certain college to take them. So if, for example, you wanted to take some business classes on the side without doing a combined major or minor, that’s definitely possible. You could also take some of the business classes to get a feel for whether or not you like it before committing to the combined major. (It’s also really easy to change majors. There’s even a link on MyNEU to do so before you even start, and it’s generally pretty painless.)
^^ can vouch for the open course selection, I’m a freshman political science/economics combined major (both in CSSH), and this semester I’m taking two lab sciences in COS, a 300-level history seminar, and only one class actually in my major. No barriers to register for any of them.
