I am president of the spanish club and math club at my school. Would colleges still recognize that I am president of both if I merge them into one common app slot? Or, would it look better to have them in separate slots so its more clear that I am president of both?
Those sound like two completely different things. I would put them in two different slots. I would only combine things that are similar (examples: volunteered at school and city library, played instrument in marching and jazz band, volunteered to coach youth baseball and softball…)
I think the answer depends on what you are doing with the remaining 8-9 slots and how much you want to say about your role in each. Both are valid approaches depending on how the rest of the section plays out. Also depends on how important they rank in your list of EC’s.
Separate slots as they are completely non-related activities. As noted above, combining like activites is OK (ex.: JV and V Cross-country).
@happy1 @claremontmom so combining my schools symphony string and pit orchestras would be ok then?
Yes, those sound like things you could combine. Do you have so many things you are trying to fit in that you need to combine so much? You may want to think about just what you are including and why.
If you had to. Think about what is most important to you and try to highlight those things in separate lines. You don’t have to include every single activity/club on your list.
Ok thanks for the help!
