I want to be an environmental engineer and University of Colorado at Boulder. Their guaranteed admission for engineering school is a weighted 3.8 and a 27 on ACT english and 30 on ACT math. Can you please chance me for acceptance to their engineering college? Also I am pretty set on this school, so would you recommend Early Action or Regular Decision?
Thank you!

Hey, high school junior here. I’m looking at Chapel Hill, NC State, and UNC Wilmington in that order. I’ll also mention that I’m a white male from the largest school district in NC.

Weighted GPA: 4.0
Unweighted GPA: 3.3

SAT (2400): 2000
SAT (1600): 1330
ACT: 30

APs:
Psychology, Environmental Science, Computer Science, European History, English Literature, Statistics

Class Rank: Top 25 %

I have 50 hours of volunteer service volunteering as a Middle/Elementary school tutor so far, I plan to do the same program next year. I’ll be working as a YMCA Camp counselor this upcoming summer (for pay).

I’m looking to apply to the Elementary Education program for each of the three schools I’m applying, and I’m generally very good at essays. I’m on great terms with many of my teachers so I expect very good rec’s.

Also, I’m an officer of Chemistry Club, and I regularly participate in Key Club and Political Club. I played Varsity Lacrosse freshman and sophomore year, but I didn’t play this year to boost the grades.

I’ve also been inducted into National Honor Society for my Senior Year.

I never really thought of Chapel Hill as an option for me, but I did pretty good on my tests, so I’ll definitely be applying. After looking it up, my SAT/ACT are near the 75th percentile, and my GPA is somewhere near the 25th.

What do you guys think? Also, do you recommend I apply early? Thank you

Why not?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1498885-chances-princeton-scea.html

@brownballer

Looks good on the rigor, nice number of AP courses. GPA is a bit of a concern, 3.2 is a tad low for unweighted. If possible, I would try to bring up your composite ACT to a 30 or 31.

As for applying, I would go with EA. Your stats don’t appear to be low enough to be rejected in the first round, and since it’s not binding, it can only help to see where you stand. I would put UC Boulder as a match for you, but you shouldn’t have too much trouble getting in RD.

@novafan

Congrats on the awesome SAT score and GPA. Fairly good EC’s as well. I’d put you at:

Duke - Low Match
UVA - Low Match
Notre Dame - Match
UNC CH - Match
UMich - Match
Cornell - Reach (it’s a reach for everyone lol)
Northeastern - Safety
Boston College - Safety

@ccquestioncc

I’m not too familiar with NC schools since I am from GA, but I know a decent bit about the first two. UNC - CH is a high match; their upward tick the last few years has been insane.

UNC - CH - High Match
NC State - Low Match (you’ll get in)
UNC Wilmington - Low Match (you’ll get in)

@TheKongo

Solid stats. Very impressive.

Princeton - Reach
MIT - Match
Stanford - Reach (for pretty much everyone)
Columbia - Match
Cornell - Match
Duke - Low Match
Northwestern - Low Match
Johns Hopkins - Low Match
Carnegie Mellon - Match
Tufts - Match
Rice - Low Match
U of Texas - Low Match
U of Michigan - Low Match
U of Rochester - Low Match

Tbh, I think you’ll be in everywhere for sure except those first five. Ivy league admissions and others ranked that high are so unpredictable.

Good luck to all of you guys! Keep them coming! I’ll have to get a thread going for myself in the next few days and have you guys chance me!

Chance me for Columbia, Barnard, NYU, UPenn

GPA: 93

All honors or AP classes for all four years of high school (only 7 APs offered and I took all 7 and the rest are honors)

novafan: it is impossible to have a 4.0unweighted gpa when u have gotten 2 B’s

Hello, I’m a high school junior from a competitive high school. Colleges: University of Denver, Earlham, Carleton, Grinnell, Colgate, Chicago, Puget Sound, and St. John’s College. (Some of these might be a bit ambitious but I’m just checking.)
GPA: 3.6 unweighted
ACT: 31
English: 36
Math: 26
APs: (3 out of a possible 5 this year) US History, Psychology, and Literature. Planning on taking calculus, environmental science, government, and English Languange next year.
I don’t have very many ECs but I have been on an academic team for all four years and am the captain of it.
Thanks ^^

School: Private School in Princeton, NJ (Hun School) its a pretty well esteemed school i guess
SAT (superscore): 2370 (800 in math, 800 in writing, 770 in critical reading)
i still need to take subject tests
GPA: around a 3.6 to 3.7 (3.8 freshman and junior year… sophomore year was rough my friend committed suicide, lost my grandfather, and my sister was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes… i dont know how colleges will view this) (everything at my school is unweighted, no weighted gpas.) we are based off of an average system though, so it is a 90 average.
course rigor: AP Calc AB and AP stat as a sophomore. This year as a junior i am taking AP Calc BC and AP Euro. Next year I will be taking AP Spanish, AP Art History, Multi-variable Calculus. I know it isnt like over the top but private schools arent the same as public schools when it comes to the rigor of ap classes. i got a 4 on ap calc ab last yr. my school doesnt offer ap econ but i have taken regular. and honors for my core non ap classes

EC:
-I am an SAT and math tutor
-I have my own non profit organization. i started it by myself. it is a registered company and everything that helps artisans that are in poverty, with this i have tons and tons of community service hours. i go to small villages in different countries to make this possible. (its kind of a big deal i think)
-I have played varsity tennis at my school and was ranked in the top 30 in the state… i am probably gonna get an award for this year from my coach.
-I played on the atlantic regional cricket team and we place 3rd in nationals. its kinda unique.
-interning with a wharton alumni over the summer in a business

i will have strong essays. i have a lot to write about, and i am good writer. good recs.

-FBLA (regional winner of some things)

-Region Math contest (2nd place individual… I knew calculus better than anyone from my school when I was in Algebra II. I can’t brag about that on the application, though.)
-FBLA (2nd in state, 6th at nationals in fairly competitive event. Competitive FBLA event, another oxymoron)

Junior:
-Beta Club
-Regional Math contests (1st in the one from previous year, 2nd in another)
-Quiz Bowl / Academic Team (qualified for national level things as team and individual in several things)
-AIME Qualifier (I was the first to do AMC from my school in years. I wish I had known about this sooner. No, USAMO, oh, well. I just hope that that not mean no Ivy League.)
-FBLA (1st in region in economics, bad place at state)
