Brown - reach
CMU - reach
Harvey Mudd - slight reach
Pomona - ok
Princeton - huge reach
Rice - reach
Stanford - huge reach
Tufts - reach
U of Rochester - match
Yale - huge reach

come on now....he desveres a little more credit that that yale stanford and princeton are all reaches. Brown is a slight reach. And the rest are high matches. I don't know Harvey Mudd's selectivity tho

Brown - reach
CMU - ?
Harvey Mudd - slight reach
Pomona - near match
Princeton - crapshoot
Rice - slight reach
Stanford - crapshoot
Tufts - slight reach to match
U of Rochester - match
Yale - crapshoot

When I say crapshoot, I mean it's a reach, but with schools at that level intangibles can play a big role.

Nash

Well, you haven't taken the SAT IIs for , Physics or German yet, but presuming you score something like 710/690 on the highest two of these three, your AI is 202.5.

Since it takes about 211+ and great ECs your a little short of what you need for the Ivies. For the other schools, you are a slight reach to big reach, mostly because you aren't even in the top 10% of your class.

From hardest to easiest:
Yale--hardest this year to get into (big reach)
Princeton-big reach
Brown/Stanford--big reach
Pomona--big reach
Rice--slight reach
Harvey Mudd--slight reach
Tufts--match to slight reach
CMU--match to slight reach
Univ of Rochester--match

I hope you are applying to at least one other school, because it's possible that you could be rejected at all of these. You also need to plan what you want to major in, because I don't see any theme in your ECs--and that will hurt you at most of these schools. If you could move your rank into the top 7 to 8% at your school, your chances at the last four of these schools would go way up.

Use your gender to your advantage. Apply to tech schools that are looking to increase female enrollement.

Hey a fencer! =D Me too. Haha. I've fenced through high school (not as much in hours as you) and I have an E rating but that's about it. It's tough to make time =(

Your stats are okay. Your awards are so-so, and I hate to say it, but I think the "International Poetry Award" thing is poetry.com and worthless (people do not respect that place.) I wouldn't put it on the app if I were you. On the other hand, the other activities seem to show quite reasonable effort and a well-rounded person (though less of a passion in one thing).

If your SATs improve, you have a fair chance at all but the Ivies and most competitive there. The hardest colleges on your list will be reaches, but give them a shot, you never know. =)

Brown University - Reach

Carnegie Mellon University - Match

Harvey Mudd College - Reach

Pomona College - High Match

Princeton University - Super Reach

Rice University - Slight Reach

Stanford University - Super Reach

Tufts University - Match

University of Rochester - Safe Match

Yale University - Super Reach

calcruzer: I don't get to find out my final ranking for a few months, I am kind of on edge because I am so close to top 10%. I don't know if I could improve it to 7-8%, but I am hoping that I improved at least some. Also, in answer to your question, I am planning on studying Computer Science, Linguistics and creative writing.

I retook the SATs today, and I get my report cared soon, which will determine my final GPA and class rank. wish me luck

good luck! :)

thanks rocketDA

You have both Harvey Mudd and Pomona on your list. These are very different schools. MH is all hard science and engineering, whereas Pomona is strictly liberal arts. Statistically speaking, both schools are reaches, as both are very numbers oriented, unless your SAT goes up significantly. Your background suggests a liberal arts interest, thus Pomona may be more what you are looking for. You are an outstanding student, but so are most who apply to the schools you list. I'm sure you'll do well as long as your list of schools has balance.

thanks for the detailed analysis. The idea here is, that I want to study computer science at HMC, and creative writing and linguistics at pomona. To my knowledge the schools offer cross majoring at the different claremont colleges, so in enrolling at either school I would receive an optimal education in all my fields of interest. I beleive you are correct that, given my choice of the two, I would attend Pomona...probably.

idamayer, i'm sorry to say that i do not find it realistic for someone to double major with those two subjects at hmc. 95% of double majors at hmc are done in topics with crossover... even then, we call them a joint major...because quite simply, a full double major at hmc is nearly impossible.

oh, really? I'll have to look into that, then... thanks for the tip! research time!

(FYI, just got my report card. Official GPA = 4.15)

Any idea what your rank is based upon that report card--did it go up? Because if so, your Ivy chances might be higher than I originally estimated. (Oh, and congratulations)

thanks... well, my GPA went up, so in theory so did my rank: unless everyone else's went up as well... I am hopeful, but .. well, we'll see

oh, FYI, my gpa is out of 4.8 instead of 5.0 because my school is weird
