Chances for Yale, Pomona, Brown, and Other Schools

Hey everyone! I am a rising senior at a pretty competitive private school in a large city. I was wondering if you all could give me a little guidance or some suggestions on my search to find the right college. My interests are primarily in English, History, Spanish, and Latin, though I really want to learn some more languages. Anyways here are my stats:

Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian

GPA: 3.9 (9th: 3.78, 10th: 3.97, 11th: 3.95)
SAT I: 2280 (CR: 740, M: 740, W: 800) --> I think I'm going to retake that, because my scores are somewhat unbalanced, and I know that I can do better, especially in Critical Reading.
SAT II: Chem - 770, USH - 770
Junior year schedule: AP Chem, APUSH, Adv. Pre-Calc, Latin II, Adv. Spanish, English (and some electives)
Senior year schedule: AP Environmental, AP World, AP Gov, AP Spanish, Latin III, English electives and some art electives

Sports: Track - 10, 11, 12
XC - 10, 11
Soccer - 9, 12
Club Soccer (team plays in Mid Atlantic Premier Soccer League) - 9, 10, 11, 12

11th Grade Class President, 12th Grade Class President
President of Spanish Club: 10, 11, 12
National History Day: 3 1st place awards at Regionals, 2 1st place awards at States and 1 2nd place award at states, 1 7th place award at Nationals and 1 Outstanding State Entry at Nationals

National Spanish Exam: Bronze (9th), Gold (10th), Gold (11th)
National Latin Exam: Silver (10th), Gold (11th)

Won an award for Outstanding Student in 10th grade and in 11th grade (goes to anywhere from 2-4 students in each grade)

Won writing award for best writer in 11th grade

I think that's pretty much it... I was wondering what my chances are at:

Yale (EA maybe...)
Brown
Pomona
Rice
Princeton
UPenn
Williams
Bowdoin

And if anyone has any other suggestions as to where I should look, they would be very much appreciated!

Better chance at Duke’s Trinity College

Yale: High Reach
Brown: low reach
Pomona: low reach
Rice: High match
Princeton: high reach
UPenn: low reach
Williams: high match/low reach (depends on essays)
Bowdoin: same as Williams

You are currently stellar acadmemically. A lot wil prob come down to essays and ECs, etc. but I can still see you getting into an Ivy or two. Good luck!

Thank you, you guys!

dstfan, do you have anymore information about Duke’s Trinity College? I don’t know much about it.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for any safety schools? I really could use some of those, haha.

Oh and one more thing: I am volunteering at my local library this summer. I don’t know if that helps or not, but I should have 50+ hours by the end of the summer.

Yale: high reach
Brown: mid reach
Pomona: in
Rice: in
Princeton: high reach
UPenn: mid/high reach ( are u doing business? )
Williams: in
Bowdoin: in

can u please chance bck? thanks

Yale - reach, but apply SCEA if you really want to go!
Brown - reach
Pomona - low reach
Rice - match
Princeton - reach
UPenn - low reach
Williams - reach
Bowdoin - match

Can you chance me back?? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/738605-chance-me-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

I think
Yale - reach
Brown - lowish reach
Pomona - low reach
Rice - solid match
princeton - reach
upenn- high match
williams - high match/low reach
bowdoin - match.

Check out middlebury for languages, its a lot like Bowdoin or Williams, and is probably a solid match for you.

chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/738548-chances-top-state-schools-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Your GPA and SAT score is great, but your lack of ECs may do you some bad. I second the recommendation for Middlebury.

Yale - High Reach, apply SCEA if you really want it
Brown - Reach
Pomona - Reach
Rice - Match
Princeton - Reach
UPenn - Low Reach
Williams - Reach
Bowdoin - Match

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/737246-chances-wellesley-ed-lacs.html</a></p>

Scratch what I said about ECs, totally skipped over your sports somehow. Maybe try getting recruited?

hey haematic,

thanks for replying! i think i’ll add middlebury to my list.

on another note, not to act indignantly or anything, but i’m curious as to what you/others consider to be good ECs, or, rather, how my ECs could be better. i thought that they were the strongest part of my application, but i guess not! again i don’t mean to come off as being offended; i’m simply curious. thanks again!

Oh haha! That was funny. Yeah, I have been approached by some small D3 schools around where I live, but I’ve never contacted any of these schools… maybe i should get on that.

Oh and I forgot to add that I have been a writing tutor at my school since 10th grade.

You cant really chance the ivy’s, no matter how stellar your test scores are its a total, total crap shoot. Even the lower tier ivys. However, for Pomona you have a 50/50, for Bowdoin a 65/35 and Williams a 60/40. Rice- 80/20

I think you’ll get into at least two or three of the Ivies. Your test scores are great already though, and if you retake them for a +2300, I dont know how much that really helps you…but anyways you have a good GPA… your ECs dont particularly jump out though, they dont seem outstanding which they need to be for Yale, etc.
Reach at Yale Brown Princeton UPenn, safety/match at all the others. GL!
chance me back if you have time? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/736548-chance-me-top-schools-ivies.html</a></p>

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the honesty.

Fuzzyfirebunny: Don’t you think it will be beneficial if I can raise my Critical Reading and my Math? 2280 is a good score, but 1480 isn’t the best. I’m confident that I can get 1500+, so I think I’m going to retake.

Any other suggestions for safeties?

By the way, I just got my AP scores, and they are:

USH: 5
CHEM: 5
ENG. LANG.: 5

I feel lame doing this, but bumpppppp.
