hey -

a group called the viola question came to my high school and did this hysterical comedy show, and i talked to one of the guys in it afterwards and he said yale has a huge comedy scene with a bunch of comedy groups. ive never done comedy before, but i really want to try out for the viola question cause they were amazing. anyone else want to audition with me? maybe even practice before? they said they do auditions right at the start of the year.

improv is huge. and hilarious. just add water, viola question, etc. don't worry, you can't miss it. between improv and acapella sometimes i'm surprised there are people left for any of the other groups.

one word of caution- weigh your options. any sort of rush in the fall (greek, improv, acapella) is going to be full of people telling you that their group is the best and you're a perfect fit and yada yada yada. but they might actually not be. i'd encourage you to check a bunch of stuff out. the extracurriculars bazaar will take care of most of that.

also, check out fraternities ... uh, and i don't say that because i'm rush chair of beta (sarcasm). lol

see you in the fall!

One of roomies is the head of one of the campus improv groups, and after watching the slow collapse of said group over the past year, I also wish to emphasize how important it is to make sure you are a 'fit' with the group you finally pick.

Looking beyond improv or to groups that do alternatives to standard improv should also be a priority. 'Purple Crayon', which does long form improv, is probably my favorite group on campus. Basically: Do a lot of looking.
